The Top 10 iPhone Applications of July 2009

Part of: iWant, iNeed, iRecommend

Hello, and welcome to the seventh installment of iWant, iNeed, iRecommend. This is a monthly series that will, simply put, present the top 10 iPhone and iPod Touch applications from that month. At the end of the year, the 120 mentioned applications will then go head to head to see which apps become the top 10 for the year. If you would like to read my previous top 10 lists, as well as all my other iPhone and iPod Touch application reviews, you can see them here. While this list is subjective (as are all top 10 lists), I did my best to base this on actual use, not my own opinion. Enjoy.

10. PDF Reader Pro Edition
While Apple has done a fine job in making all sorts of files readable on the iPhone, they have yet to make PDFs that useful or great. Instead, they left a void in PDFs, one which third-parties had to fill it in. While countless groups tried to climb to the top of the mountain, one application stood out from the rest. PDF Reader Pro Edition is a simple PDF reader, but it also contains many little add-ons that are useful. You can search your PDFs (for a specific file, or for a specific word), bookmark pages, share, and even edit (copy, paste, delete only for right now). This easily lets you handle all of your work files from the road, and, at only $1.99, it won’t put a dent in your wallet.

9. Gambler’s Anonymous
I am a big-time gambler. I love to play poker, blackjack, or really anything that involves cards and money. Often, I am left with the cards, as the money is given to somebody else. Now, when I bet, I like to stay within my means, and only lose (or win) a certain amount of money. Gambler’s Anonymous helps me do this with ease. This application allows me to enter information about my games, wins/losses, and the money that is changing hands. This makes sure that I am able to keep under my budget, and never go too far into the hole. If you are a gambler – either big or small – you owe it to yourself to grab this application. At $0.99, Gambler’s Anonymous is a sure-fire winning bet.

This is great, Robert. A very useful column.

Do you happen to know whether Task Pro can be synched with my Outlook/Entourage tasks? My life is completely organized through Entourage tasks, but I haven't figured out how to get that data pushed out to my iPhone.
