Tell it to the Marines

Hey, did you know that you can go to OperationDearAbby.net and send a message to the troops in the Gulf? Apparently it'll go to personnel who are from your area, and you can choose which branch of the military to send to.

You may already know this. I had no idea. I just entered "how do I write to the troops?" in a search engine and it came up.

So I immediately started on my message to the troops:

"Dear Imperialist Crusader,

Thanks a lot for helping our illegitimate President perpetrate his immoral, illegal war on the innocent people of..."

Just kidding.

What I really said was...

(stored all five letters here)

Sending the message is way-super easy. Click here and in one minute you'll have sent a message to the troops. I know that in their situation, letters that remind them of home are like gold.

Anyone know where/how to send a snail-mail letter of a similar sort?

Unfortunately, after 9/11 and the fear of anthrax, etc via the mail, the "any soldier" mail program was terminated. Some units may have set up an address to send things, so you might went to check the websites of each service.

Thanks for the info, Rob. I see now that that is part of the history of the cyber-way to communicate with them.

Btw, it's apparently possible to help the Iraqis just by going to Amazon's front page via the link here (and, of course, buying stuff).

Or maybe it's only by buying books on this list. I can't quite tell how it works.

Being that you have a blog, I am surprised you don't have an Amazon sponsorship button. Apparently, it works like a wish list, but you receive money if people buy something after clicking the link off of your site.

As for refugee aid groups, it is a shame that they are necessary, but some of them are worthwhile.
