Academic software is useless for professional webmasters, Ken. I suggest those in that category carefully read the fine print of their academic license:
So spend 200 bones and you can't use it to build any commercial software? Doh! This is only a deal for those who want to play around with flash for fun and for fun it should be priced under $100 IMO.

I guess I should have added the disclaimer.
Last year when MX 2004 came out I plopped down the $1000 but still worth it if you ask me. That can be payed off rather quickly in freelance web work.
But, there are a heck of a lot of web development inside of Academia, Part of my job at the University is developing University sites, and teaching others how to do the same. So for those who come to BC and are inside of Academia in some way or another, this is a great deal. And I know from experience some university book stores do not carry the best software selection.
I since I my own business, I have a full license for my software. The prices suck, but its a tax write off!
