MSN is making its way into the internet television channel market. MSN has just signed a deal with Reveille, an independent Hollywood production company, to create original content for its new broadband channel. MSN wants to exploit the interactive nature of the online format and use it as a proving ground for shows that could transition onto other platforms.
"The digital future has arrived, and in collaboration with MSN we will be creating new forms of content without boundaries," Reveille CEO, Ben Silverman, said in a prepared statement. "We believe in a multiplatform world where the best elements of an idea can be tailored to the attributes of the specific media, enabling the audience to have more enriched experiences and advertisers to contextualize themselves in a more profound way."
There are already several possible shows in the works. These include: a comedy that stars Tom Arnold; Face Off, an interactive talk show; and Chef to the Rescue, a cooking advice show. MSN has hired Reveille to create ten shows to start.
There isn't any word to the format, only that it will be highly interactive with several different advertising formats. This could be ad supported streams, traditional displays or product placement.
Reveille is noted for having funded the NBC reality TV series, "The Restaurant," entirely via product placements.Source: Itvt.com
This seems similar to what CBS is attempting with innertube, in regard to the product placement and as a trial area for content that could move to other platforms. The major difference is that MSN isn't a major network. There isn't any informaton on when MSN's service will launch at the current time.
