How Important Is Your Blog?

It seems that every time the topic of blogging comes up, customers ask us, "Why is a blog important?" If I were to ask them if they wanted to originate business online, they would undoubtedly answer "Yes." If I asked any prospective customer if they wanted to be on the first page of Google I know I would get the same positive response. Everyone would like to attract attention online, which is exactly why it makes it that much more difficult for anyone to draw a crowd online. There are several strategies of course to bring in the crowds; some of them are not the most ethical or considerate to say the least.

Many Web site owners and SEO professionals alike will try all sorts of gimmicks and tricks to obtain a page one ranking. I cannot say that we haven't attempted everything to obtain a page one ranking as well. I think any good SEO company will need to experiment as much as possible (not with client projects), to understand the algorithms and search engine rankings better. So, with everyone vying for the first page of Google or any one of the other major search engines, what can really differentiate you from the pack?

Over and over again, our blog has been one of the most important resources and reasons that we continue to be on the first page of Google for relevant search terms to our site. We have had many comments on our blog, some positive and others negative. Overall it was comments we were looking for to begin with. We wanted to be noticed and we were able to do that most efficiently with our blog.

It was our intent to draw traffic to our site by providing quality information and useful content. I wished that I could say that we started publishing our blog and it brought in a flood of traffic, but that was simply just not the case. Here were some of the best methods that helped us attract attention to our Web site from our blog:

Good article. I am now reaping the benefit of unique content. My #1 blog is about Cheyenne Woods (Tiger Woods' niece) and familial and racial makeup. I wrote it back in April 2009 and it has garnered over 3,000 hits so far. Just wrote it on a whim. Who knew?

What makes it unique is that I include racial and ethnic rundowns on lots of folks. I was doing this in dribs and drabs but noticed the search for those topics was there so I kept it up. Now, all things Tiger are a pop search.

Also, noticed that at first folks were not clicking on the links inside my articles. So, I put a few popular feeds on the main page and that has increased clicks! Be unique is sound advice.

My latest tag "Where There's Smoke There's Tiger."

Thank you! It seems that we all forget to make our posts unique from time to time (at least I know that I do). Sounds like your post about Cheyenne Woods has gone over swimmingly well.

    Thanks Heloise!

A (Wordpress) blog is a great tool to publish your news and interesting information. A blog application provides a lot of powerful tools to interact with the reader and is flexible enough to handle different types of content (think about text, images and videos). Sure a blog will help your companies site-SEO but every other website will provide some SEO too.

It's interesting that its been a few years and most of this article is still relevant. More and more people are using blog platforms such as Wordpress these days. As SEO becomes more transparent I think we will continue to see this.
