En Route!, a useful communication app, announced its latest update to 1.2 adding Facebook login integration as well as sharing trips via SMS.
For those not familiar with En Route!, it's a real-time location sharing web and mobile app that aims to make it easier to keep friends, family and colleagues in the know about the user's whereabouts. This is simply done by creating a trip and sharing it with others via a dynamic map that can be opened within the app or on any web browser.
After it's shared, the app will automatically inform chosen users of when said person is departing, a few mintues away and arriving at their destination. Location information is only shared with people the user chooses and is automatically turned off at the end of the trip or can be manually stopped at anytime within the app.
“We found that a simple message about when a user will arrive addressed a lot of our users’ basic needs,” said Dave Smiddy. “Users who want a richer experience can view the trip on a map in real-time within the app or on any web enabled device.”
Along with social and SMS integration, the app update has simplified the user experience by adding the ability to search locations within Calendar appointments as well as improved recently used places and contacts and improved contacts integration.
En Route! has several very useful features, including creating and sharing trips, which accurately measures ETA from trips via car, public transit and walking. These are dynamic real-time ETAs as well, meaning the app calculates it from the actual position as well as accounting for traffic delays.
The notifications can be toggled on or off based on the user's preference; by turning them on it's easier to let everyone known when the user is about to arrive. No more unnecessary texting of phone calls.
Privacy is paramount so all the location information is only shared with people the user deems appropriate and only for the duration of the trip, and can be stopped at anytime throughout the trip. En Route! is available as a free download on the iPhone App Store. Of course, current users can update from within their App Store app to the latest 1.2 version for free as well.
