This time we look at OS X
We've been through the whole shopping experience, and the reason for switching to the Mac, in Episodes 1 through 3. Episode 4 was a review of the MacBook from a hardware standpoint. Now, after a little more than two months of use, comes a review of Mac OS X 10.4 itself.…

The Apple 'squiggley" key is called the Command key

Wow -- 26 comments already. This may be a new record.
The article wasn't a complete success, because I've only been yelled at by Mac fanboys, and not Windows fanboys. For the person who called me a Windows apologist, you'll need to read the thousand or so critical items and stories I've written about Microsoft over the years in the BugBlog and BugNet.
For those who gave tips and hints, thank you very much. I sort of like thinking of it as Apple-Squiggly rather than Command key; I don't think Steve Jobs will listen, but maybe I can get that Fake Steve Jobs guy to do so.
Paul -- your question was actually answered in earlier episodes, but I set up and maintain websites for economic organizations. The people I work with are primarily Fortune 500 type corporate economists, and they almost all are PC people.
Mark -- the primary reason I stayed with Firefox is that I had enough other new stuff to learn - staying with the familiar browser simplified one part of the transition.

I used Apple II's and punched cards in graduate school.
In a job that I recently told the boss I would not renew my contract for next school year, I have been using and maintaining Macs. One Vista machine causes more work than a lab full of Macs.
My homebuilt PC recently suffered a motherboard failure. I replaced it with a MacBook that arrived yesterday.

Bruce,
Totally understandable, and the wealth of Firefox plugins may tip the scales that way anyway for you. I just wanted to point out some useful, not-so-obvious features of the Mac-only browsers. Best of luck as you continue your experiment.

Mark

To the person who wrote this: No, I don't need to read thousands of items and stories on what is axiomatic: Windows should not be allowed on the Internet; and should ONLY be allowed to connect to a WINDOWS network (as this mistake of an OS was conceived, planned, designed, & coded to do). Windows should not be criticized; it should be dismissed, certainly at this point.
To the person: You still don’t address why you stuck in this ‘oh but OS X isn’t absolutely safe’ FUD. Why this entry? We’re waiting.....
