Build Your Own Dylan CD

My father-in-law has been holding forth on this issue for the last seven years: why isn't there somewhere you can go and mix and match your favorites songs by a given artist and have them burn the CD for you? No down;oading, no digital files - a real, physical CD made to your order.

Licensing has been the major hurdle: many major artists - Beatles, Stones, Led Zep - haven't allowed their material to be licensed to the legal digital downloading services. So it is a very big deal - and hopefully an important precedent - that Bob Dylan has allowed this:

    BOB DYLAN

Create your own Bob Dylan compilation CD! For $15 you can create a Custom Mix CD with 12 of your favorite tracks and rarities. You select the tracks you want, in the order you want, then we'll create the CD and mail it directly to you.

This is a step toward a consumer-friendly music industry - this particular journey will be completed when the price of a collection like this drops by at least 33%, and when the entire label catalog is available for mix and match CD creation.

    i like bob dylan... however.

I'm assuming that these made-to-order cds don't come with any "real" artwork or anything.

$15 is a steep price for a cd w/o artwork and is just a burn...

    peace.

I'd buy one out of obligation, if I could fill it up with all the rare tracks that I've been burning from bootlegs and downloads... as well as from the occasional album purchased for just one Dylan cut.

I'd still much rather be able to send a dollar royalty directly to the Bobster.

Twelve songs for $15? Why not give you a full CD? Depending on which songs you're picking, this might only be half of a CD. Then there's the double or triple priced $15 tag.

As 13 year old hooker Sun Lee said to Vic Mackey on The Shield when he told her that the Cherry Poppers video she made wasn't a real movie, "It start though."

yeah but...how many Dylan songs are under 4 minutes? hehehe. It would be worth it if I could fill it completely w/ rarities.

Also, I have heard the Gotta Serve Somebody cd, and it's awesome! Go to www.gottaservesomebody.com and you can stream soundclips from each song

If they have the rap record Dylan made in the late 80s, then this would be cool. And yes, he did make a rap record. Really.

I'd definiety trow in tunes from 'Infidels' a very underrated album.
