Blogcritics On the Pulse - The Superbowl, Coretta Scott King and More

Part of: Blogcritics On the Pulse

Here are the stories that dominated the Google Zeitgeist this week ending February 6, 2006.

Although the Super Bowl commercials have really dropped off in recent years in my opinion, people still like to talk about them every year. Which one will be the best? Which one will be the worst? Unfortunately for us all, we don't get any more farting horses or busty GoDaddy chicks in action. Thanks so much Janet Jackson. Thanks for taking away our edgy commercials.

Understandably, Coretta Scott King was in the news this week as she died from the effects of stroke and ovarian cancer. Blogcritics were vocal about King's life.

Bird of Paradise had this to say.

"I suspect that deep in her heart, gifted though she was, Coretta Scott King's personal dream would have been to simply be a Baptist pastor's wife, mother to her children and, perhaps, one day stepping out into some vocation of her own choosing when the children had grown. Instead of choosing her own destiny, however, destiny chose her."

That stupid Groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks of mild winter. If only Bill Murray could make his way through the weather and the repeated playings of The Pennsylvania Polka to drive that overgrown hampster off a cliff, we might be able to avoid flee-bitten predictions of blizzards.

The Super Bowl was a nightmare for me because I am a Cleveland Browns fan. No matter how bad my team is, I still feel the pain when a rival ends up winning big.

For fear of starting trouble, I report just the facts. A cartoon was printed. People are upset. Violence ensued.

The cute little girl who played Stephanie Tanner on Full House admits to having a meth problem on Good Morning America. I guess all the pressure of not making billions like the Olsen twins is getting to her. If only she, too, could have had a couple thousand countdowns to her 18th birthday all over the web, she might be able to have survived child stardom into full on dirty adulthood.

The Oscars are supposedly like the Super Bowl for females. If that is the case, then is Joan Rivers like John Madden? Which NFL team was Brokeback Mountain and which one was Capote?

Heather Locklear goes through another rocker. After casting aside Tommy Lee in the past, and now Richie Sambora, who will Heather Locklear hook up with next? I think I just heard Scott Stapp cheering in the distance. Sorry Scott, have you seen the Pam and Tommy video? Maybe you are underqualified for this job?

So. People like to watch other people get their de-brained on TV? I blame video games and rock music.

I am sure the only reason that this movie wasn't linked to any Oscar news is because it is eligible for NEXT year's awards. That must be it.

The Rolling Stones got the honor of playing the Superbowl halftime show in the second year of the post-Janet era. You can't get a bigger name than the Rolling Stones without a shovel and some smelling salts.

Right side stands. Left side stands. Both sides stand. If Bush's speechwriters had thought about it, they could have created a better dance routine than anything on Dancing with the Stars.

I am a Browns fan, remember? Blech.

She is reportedly engaged to Jay Mohr. I heard him on the Opie and Anthony show last week and he said that they had planned some of the party and reserved a room, but he hadn't purchased a ring yet. He made jokes about marrying her for the money. After the "Brown and Bubbly" Pepsi campaign during the Super Bowl, he was probably only half kidding.
