AT&T Names Several Partners for Homezone

Telephone giant AT&T has announced several big-name partners for its upcoming Homezone online venture.

It looks like Akimbo Systems and DISH Network will provide the shows and Yahoo! High-speed Internet will be part of the backbone. The system is also expected to have DVR capability.

Akimbo is a video-on-demand service with more than 10,000 shows and movies in its library. Subscribers to the service will be able to view an online guide of listings and choose downloads from there.

Akimbo itself is a pretty interesting site with lots of cable programming available. It includes shows from such networks as Cartoon Network, BBC, The History Channel and more. Subscriptions to this download service without the AT&T package are $9.99 a month and there's even a player for TV viewing available. It's normally priced around $200, but it's on special now for $69.99.

Homezone is expected to roll out later this summer. The combination AT&T has picked is serious and it looks like the service will be as well.
