Someone in the Texas Rangers organization tested positive for cocaine last summer. And no, it's not who you think. It's the manager, Ron Washington.

Sports Illustrated revealed that last year Washington failed a drug test, turning up positive for cocaine. And sometime between using the drugs and pissing into a cup, he realized that there was no way this side of the Whizzinator to avoid the inevitable news. So he called up the commissioner's office and laid out his preemptive mea culpa before the drug tests arose.

According to SI's Jon Heyman, Washington completed a nine-month counseling program and was treated as a first-time offender, not being suspended or publicly called out for his transgression. He made his mistake, served his time, but while is internal penance was completed, the phrase of his quest for public forgiveness is just beginning. And it began with trying to explain it:

"I did make a mistake and I regret that I did it. I am really embarrassed and I am really sorry. Any attempt to try to explain it is going to sound like excuses. There is no right way to explain something wrong, and I did wrong. Was it tension? Maybe. Anxiety?"
