One of the hottest concert tickets during the upcoming summer of 2014 will certainly be The Voice, The Guitar, The Songs, an 18-city North American tour boasting two living legends: Rod Stewart and Santana. The must-see tour kicks off on May 23 in Albany, NY with dates scheduled through August 20, concluding in Wantagh, NY (at Long Island’s Jones Beach). With this pair of co-headliners, the show promises to be a cross-generational, cross-genre hit.
Both Rod Stewart and Santana (the Latin rock band led by guitarist extraordinaire Carlo Santana) have received enough honors to make anyone’s eyes begin to glaze over. Both artists are inductees of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, both have sold in excess of 100 million records, both began their hit-laden recording careers in the late ‘60s. That’s just scratching the surface as new releases have continued to emerge ever since.
What also unites these classic rockers is their common love of performing, as clearly evidenced by their constant touring (both artists currently have Las Vegas residencies; Stewart at Caesar’s Palace and Santana at Mandalay Bay’s House of Blues). With countless hits between them, the opportunity to see them on the same bill is an exciting one indeed.
Santana is set to release a brand new album, Corazon, on May 6, 2014. Some of the biggest names in Latin music make appearances on the album, including: Gloria Estefan, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Juanes, Miguel, and Niña Pastori. The 12-song Corazon was produced by Lester Mendez and will be issued by Sony Latin Iberia and RCA Records.
Rod Stewart’s most recent release, Time, hit the Billboard album chart in 2013 (where it peaked at number seven). Time marked Stewart’s return to songwriting after years dominated by covering everything from the Great American Songbook (in a multi-album series), to classic rock and soul.
