I went 11-5 last week straight-up, and 7-9 against the spread. For the season, that puts me at 127-65 straight-up, and 98-88-6 against the spread. For a comparison, check out the “experts” over at ESPN.
Here are my picks for the NFL’s Week 14 games:
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 8
Cleveland 4-8 at Pittsburgh 9-3 – 8:20 p.m. [Line: Steelers by 14]
This should be a low-scoring and relatively close game.
–RJ’s Pick: Steelers by 7
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 11
Kansas City 5-7 at New York Jets 7-5 – 1:00 p.m. [Line: Jets by 9]
A Kansas City victory would not really surprise me.
–RJ’s Pick: Jets by 4
Tampa Bay 4-8 at Jacksonville 3-9 – 1:00 p.m. [Line: Buccaneers by 1]
This game is almost unwatchable, the teams are so bad.
–RJ’s Pick: Buccaneers by 6
New England 9-3 at Washington 4-8 – 1:00 p.m. [Line: Patriots by 7.5]
New England should score 35-plus points against yet another sub-.500 team.
–RJ’s Pick: Patriots by 20
Atlanta 7-5 at Carolina 4-8 – 1:00 p.m. [Line: Falcons by 3]
This match will be high-scoring and somewhat competitive, but the better team will win.
–RJ’s Pick: Falcons by 8
Indianapolis 0-12 at Baltimore 9-3 – 1:00 p.m. [Line: Ravens by 16]
It will be the biggest mismatch of the week, although Dan Orlovsky is a considerably better quarterback than Curtis Painter, so Indianapolis might manage to score a touchdown or two—last week against the Patriots, it scored three late TDs to make it close but still lost 31-24.
–RJ’s Pick: Ravens by 21
Philadelphia 4-8 at Miami 4-8 – 1:00 p.m. [Line: Dolphins by 3]
Miami has won four of its last five.
–RJ’s Pick: Dolphins by 9
Minnesota 2-10 at Detroit 7-5 – 1:00 p.m. [Line: Lions by 7]
Detroit would have to play even dumber than usual to lose at Ford Field to Minnesota.
–RJ’s Pick: Lions by 13
New Orleans 9-3 at Tennessee 7-5 – 1:00 p.m. [Line: Saints by 4]
Chris Johnson has been great the last two weeks, but no one can keep up with New Orleans right now.
–RJ’s Pick: Saints by 10
Houston 9-3 at Cincinnati 7-5 – 1:00 p.m. [Line: Bengals by 3]
This is the second-best matchup of the week.
–RJ’s Pick: Texans by 2
Chicago 7-5 at Denver 7-5 – 4:05 p.m. [Line: Broncos by 3.5]
Matt Forte’s injury and Caleb Hanie’s poor play likely dooms Chicago to a .500 season and no Wild Card berth.
–RJ’s Pick: Broncos by 12
San Francisco 10-2 at Arizona 5-7 – 4:05 p.m. [Line: 49ers by 4]
I don’t foresee a lot of scoring here, but I don’t think it will be particularly close either.
–RJ’s Pick: 49ers by 11
Buffalo 5-7 at San Diego 5-7 – 4:15 p.m. [Line: Chargers by 6.5]
These are two teams that wasted great starts and now have the slimmest of postseason hopes.
–RJ’s Pick: Chargers by 14
Oakland 7-5 at Green Bay 12-0 – 4:15 p.m. [Line: Packers by 11]
The NFL’s lone undefeated team shall remain that way for at least another week.
–RJ’s Pick: Packers by 16
New York Giants 6-6 at Dallas 7-5 – 8:20 p.m. [Line: Cowboys by 3.5]
Dallas could take control of the NFC East with a win here at home … but it won’t.
–RJ’s Pick: Giants by 3
MONDAY, DECEMBER 12
St. Louis 2-10 at Seattle 5-7 – 8:30 p.m. [Line: Seahawks by 6.5]
The only team even close to being as bad as Indianapolis, playing on the road in a notoriously loud stadium against a team that has won three of its last four, is a recipe for a blowout.
–RJ’s Pick: Seahawks by 15
