I went 9-4 last week straight-up, but just 3-9-1 against the spread. For the season, that puts me at 61-29 straight-up, and 46-40-4 against the spread. For a comparison, check out the “experts” over at ESPN.
Here are my picks for the NFL’s Week Seven:
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 23
San Diego (4-1) at New York Jets (3-3) 1:00 PM [Line: Chargers by 1]
The Chargers have won three in a row. The Jets beat Miami last week to end a three-game losing streak. They are 3-0 at home this season.
RJ’s Pick: New York Jets by 4
Chicago (3-3) at Tampa Bay (4-2) 1:00 PM [Line: Bears by 1]
The Bears are winless on the road this year. The Buccaneers sit atop the NFC South after beating New Orleans last week.
RJ’s Pick: Tampa Bay by 3
Washington (3-2) at Carolina (1-5) 1:00 PM [Line: Panthers by 1]
John Beck will start under center for the Redskins this week. The Panthers have allowed at least 28 points in five of their six games this season.
RJ’s Pick: Washington by 7
Atlanta (3-3) at Detroit (5-1) 1:00 PM [Line: Lions by 3.5]
Falcons QB Matt Ryan has been sacked just twice in his last three games. He was sacked a total of 13 times in the first three games of the season. The Lions have some serious concerns at running back. Jahvid Best suffered a concussion last week, his second of the year, while Jerome Harrison was found to have a brain tumor, which voided a trade that would have sent him to Philadelphia in exchange for former Pro Bowl RB Ronnie Brown.
RJ’s Pick: Detroit by 8
Seattle (2-3) at Cleveland (2-3) 1:00 PM [Line: Browns by 2.5]
The Seahawks shocked the Giants at MetLife Stadium last week, 36-25. The Browns have scored more than 17 points in a game only once this season, in Week Two.
RJ’s Pick: Seattle by 5
Denver (1-4) at Miami (0-5) 1:00 PM [Line: Dolphins by 1]
Tim Tebow will start at quarterback this week for the Broncos, fulfilling God’s divine destiny. (I kid.) The winless Dolphins have lost six straight home games dating back to last season.
RJ’s Pick: Denver by 9
Houston (3-3) at Tennessee (3-2) 1:00 PM [Line: Titans by 3.5]
The Texans have dropped two in a row. The Titans have allowed just 94 points, second fewest in the AFC and third fewest in the NFL.
RJ’s Pick: Tennessee by 1
Kansas City (2-3) at Oakland (4-2) 4:05 PM [Line: Raiders by 4.5]
The Chiefs have won two in a row after starting the season 0-3. QB Carson Palmer is now a Raider, but will he be the starter on Sunday, or will rookie Terrelle Pryor or veteran Kyle Boller get the start instead?
RJ’s Pick: Oakland by 10
Pittsburgh (4-2) at Arizona (1-4) 4:05 PM [Line: Steelers by 3.5]
The Steelers are just 1-2 on the road this season. The Cardinals have lost four straight.
RJ’s Pick: Pittsburgh by 13
Green Bay (6-0) at Minnesota (1-5) 4:15 PM [Line: Packers by 9.5]
The Packers are the NFL’s only remaining undefeated team. The Vikings have allowed 145 points, most in the NFC North. They’ve scored just 121 points, by far the fewest in their division.
RJ’s Pick: Green Bay by 15
St. Louis (0-5) at Dallas (2-3) 4:15 PM [Line: Cowboys by 13.5]
The Rams have scored just four touchdowns all season. The Cowboys have dropped their last two games.
RJ’s Pick: Dallas by 3
Indianapolis (0-6) at New Orleans (4-2) 8:20 PM [Line: Saints by 14.5]
The winless Colts have allowed 163 points this season, most in the AFC and tied for the most in the league. The Saints are averaging the second most yards per game in the NFL.
RJ’s Pick: New Orleans by 24
MONDAY, OCTOBER 24
Baltimore (4-1) at Jacksonville (1-5) 8:30 PM [Line: Ravens by 9.5]
The Ravens have allowed the fewest points in the league. The Jaguars have lost five in a row.
RJ’s Pick: Baltimore by 21
