Rice Wins the Day

On April 1st, I posted an article entitled, “Be Careful What You Wish For,” where I made these assertions:

  • Partisans who have been hoping to hurt President Bush with 9/11 Commission wrangling just made a HUGE mistake.
  • Forcing Rice to testify in public gives the initiative back to President Bush.
  • Despite what Democrats might think, Dr. Rice is capable of handling the worst that partisans on the commission can throw at her.
  • The size of the audience tuning in to hear Dr. Rice’s testimony will be larger than the audience who heard Richard Clarke’s testimony.
  • Americans who hear her testimony will “be impressed.”
  • President Bush’s poll numbers will likely rise after Dr. Rice testifies.

So, Dr. Rice has testified and we’ve had a couple of days to see what the polls would say, lets take a look:

RasmussenReports.com posted the following results on Thursday, April 8:

  • In the wake of Condoleezza Rice’s testimony before a national television audience, 50% of American voters have a favorable view of the nation’s National Security Advisor. Just 24% have an unfavorable view, while 26% are not sure or do not know who she is.
  • Following the Rice testimony, President Bush recorded his best single night of polling in over a week.
  • Seventy-one percent (71%) of Americans said they followed news stories of the Rice testimony somewhat or very closely.
  • Among those who were following the story closely, Rice was viewed favorably by 56% and unfavorably by 28%.
  • Clarke is viewed favorably by just 27% of voters and unfavorably by 42%.
  • Fox News, AP and Zogby polls all show a statistical dead-heat, with President Bush up by one percentage point in each poll

Ironically, on one of the Fox News shows this morning some of the talking heads were expressing the need to get rid of Dr. Rice because she had become such a “political liability.” Maybe they are the ones who need to go find a new job.

But you left some statistics out of your story.

How many ‘murricans, who when they heard about Rice (sorry, but only M.D.’s deserve to get called Dr. outside of academia) talking about the utter lack of “silver bullets” thought the USA was under attack by werewolves? Or went out and bought a six pack of Coors Light?

Remember, if it gets spun, the job doesn’t need to be done.

  • mike

Poor Condi meant to say “single bullet.” “Silver bullet” is medical slang for stopping a sexually transmitted disease.

Which slip-up pretty much sums up her hapless testimony.

    David, just curious:

“On Thursday, April 8, Dr. Rice did exactly what I thought she would do, impress the American public with her forthright manner and intelligence”

So if you weren’t impressed, does this mean that you are not a part of the American public?

  • http://www.viewpointjournal.com David Flanagan

So if you weren’t impressed, does this mean that you are not a part of the American public?

I was IIA, impressed in advance. ;-)

    Thanks for the question.

Actually, as far as I can remember, “the silver bullet” for VD was the hoped for cure. However, the disease continued, with syphilis and gonorrhea running rampant because condoms were mostly unavailable.

So, the US administration saying there was no cure to terrorism, meant they weren’t using condoms in the creation of terrorism.

Or they just didn’t know what they were doing.

So, tell us Flannelman, which is it, didn’t know, or didn’t care?

  • http://www.tekwh0re.net Ms. Tek

I was not impressed, does this mean that I am not American?

  • http://www.viewpointjournal.com David Flanagan

So, tell us Flannelman, which is it, didn’t know, or didn’t care?

    silver bullet
    n.
An infallible means of attack or defense.
A simple remedy for a difficult or intractable problem: “There is no single silver bullet or panacea that will solve all the problems of Bay Area schools” (San Francisco Chronicle).

Dr. Rice did not use the wrong term, she used exactly the right term and she meant it only in reference to the 9/11 attacks. The recently declassified PDB that everyone is now talking about underscores the frustrating lack of specific intelligence to point to the kind of tactic used by al Qaeda on 9/11.

    No

    Thanks.

So, since you didn’t answer the question of “didn’t know or didn’t care” and this continues a pattern of not answering questions, I can only conclude that you are part of the Junta dis-info committee.

I don’t have a filter for dis-info via web postings, but the least I can do is tag them as such online when I read them on blogs.

And Flannelman has confirmed Werewolves are attacking the USA. Run, you frightened assholes, while the fear-mongers loot the country.

    RUN!

  • http://www.viewpointjournal.com David Flanagan

And Flannelman has confirmed Werewolves are attacking the USA. Run, you frightened assholes, while the fear-mongers loot the country.

This is exactly why I don’t tend to answer your posts Jim. I don’t know what the hell you are talking about.

    Thanks.

    Let me itemize:
!) you have no awareness of the world outside the USDA, and come off as a Chicken thug
    2) you display all the partizan elan of a fascist thug
    3) you have the subtlety of a crane, y’know the big metal one, not the bird.
    4) You attempt to engage in debate, but then act like like a answering machine vs. a staging of The HMS Pinafore.
    5) You’re a tool and you just think blasting fascist propaganda is a way to life online.
    6) you don’t actually respond to critics.

  • http://www.resonation.ca Jim Carruthers

ah, the last line was really lame, are you, Flannelman, right-wing superwhoro (that’s what they call superheros in Mexico), never saw a werewolf movie, where the only cure to a werewolf is a silver bullet? Or are you taking the VD route? In which case can we expect members of the junta to discuss VD, and often?

    Clap for the Wolfman.

  • http://www.resonation.ca Jim Carruthers

By the way, I thought I told you the last time I wanted you using the the term “Dr.” was when they were giving you a proctology exam? Using Dr. outside academia is both hurtful and demeaning.

Do I have to put a finger up your butt to get you to respect a medical degree?

  • http://www.viewpointjournal.com David Flanagan

you don’t actually respond to critics.

I respond to critics all the time. At the same time, its impossible to respond to each and every critic seeing as how I do have a life to live and a career to continue.

As for your writing “style,” you must believe that we will see your ramblings as something akin to the writings of Hunter S. Thompson. Forget it.

Not to say that I think I’m talented… I’m not. Mac Diva is a far better writer than I.

But I enjoy writing and I enjoy debating important issues and so I’ll continue to write and I’ll improve in little bits as I continue to write over the years.

    And on we go…

So, just MLK Jr. then? Without the Doctor part? ‘Zat okay?

DAVID: “Mac Diva is a far better writer than I.”

Man, your credibility was bad before. Now it’s beyond repair.

    (What I learned from her)

  • Dirk Squarejaw

“Do I have to put a finger up your butt to get you to respect a medical degree?”

This assumes you’d have to pull your head out of your own ass to see what you were doing.

  • http://www.viewpointjournal.com David Flanagan

    Shark,

I didn’t say that Mac Diva was RIGHT, I just said that she’s a good writer. :-)

She’s not a bad writer, I agree. Though, unfortunately, it seems many of her posts here are largely cut-and-pasted from other sources…

    Jim-Bob,

A PhD does not only apply to a medical degree, is just means an American doctorate usually based on at least 3 years graduate study and a dissertation; the highest degree awarded by a graduate school. I believe it is latin and stands for Philosophiae Doctor (Doctor of Philosophy). Does not have anything to do with a medical degree.

“talking about the utter lack of “silver bullets” thought the USA was under attack by werewolves? Or went out and bought a six pack of Coors Light?”
(Mike – this is also for your)

    silver bullet
    n.

    1. An infallible means of attack or defense.

Just because you only think of werewolves or beer just speaks volumes of your IQ.

It’s obvious that she is light years ahead of you….

“So, the US administration saying there was no cure to terrorism, meant they weren’t using condoms in the creation of terrorism.

Or they just didn’t know what they were doing.”

It’s just impossible for you to use some critical thinking isn’t it? With all of the constant bitching from Democrats about how we are turning into a ‘Police State’, our lost liberties, etc. – being 100% honest with yourself – do you really think that even if Bush had wanted to pass the security changes; how much screaming would the Democrats have done?

I don’t find it as amusing as you seem to with the condom joke.

“And Flannelman has confirmed Werewolves are attacking the USA. Run, you frightened assholes, while the fear-mongers loot the country.”

He probably didn’t answer you because he felt sorry about your obvious emotional issues.

    Let me itemize:
!) you have no awareness of how the real world works and come off sounding like an ostrich with his head in the sand
    2) you display all the partizan elan of a elitist, Socialist, Jack-Ass…
    3) you are not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
    4) You attempt to engage in debate, then then digress into name calling.
    5) You’re a tool and you just think blasting the Bush administration is a way to life online.
    6) you don’t actually give anything to respond to.

“ah, the last line was really lame, are you, Flannelman, right-wing superwhoro (that’s what they call superheros in Mexico), never saw a werewolf movie, where the only cure to a werewolf is a silver bullet? Or are you taking the VD route? In which case can we expect members of the junta to discuss VD, and often?”

Are you, Jim-Bob, left-wing superidiot, aware that the movies are fictional entertainment and does not apply to the real world?

    CBS Poll

David, headline should probably read: “Rice Lost the Day”

    You’re welcome.

Sounds more like David Flanagan’s posts to me.
