We’d had an exciting Saturday as India won the World Cup for cricket. Everyone was euphoric. Sunday morning, the spirit was the same and we headed downtown to the quaint Woodside Inn in Colaba.
It truly is all wood and has a very pleasant ambience. We went upstairs and saw old photographs of Mumbai adorning the walls. A large window showed the traffic outside and we realised how lucky we were to be away from it. There were people of all ages.Everyone just here to spend a leisurely Sunday.
I saw a desk with the latest magazines and a board that announced bicycle meets and the fact that the restaurant has free Wi-fi. Not surprisingly, there were lots of youngsters on the ground floor with their laptops.
We started with the red vegetable Soup, which included zucchini, tomatoes and gourd. It was amazingly flavorful; we dipped the crisp lavash into it while we chatted about everything under the sun.
Next we had the lime and pepper chicken, a dish so apt for the summer. Citrus and spice make good partners.
We ended with a Mississipi mud pie that was to die for. A rich brown color, it glistened like a movie star on a premiere night. Although, in my humble opinion, it could have fared better with a touch of sweetness
The place left us relaxed. The staff do not rush you through your meal. The food was excellent. This restaurant has been around for a long time.
No wonder it still is and is always packed!
