If you’re anywhere near Chicago, there’s only one place to have breakfast, really. Head to Victory’s Banner, in Roscoe Village. It’s one of the most unusual breakfast spots in town, and the waffles and French toast are incredible – well worth a drive.

My favorite dish, though is called “Satisfaction Promise.” Indeed, this scrambled egg with spinach, pesto, sun-dried tomatoes, and feta IS a promise of satisfaction. There are omelettes (try the Severino – caramelized onions, red bell peppers, and goat cheese), and soups, salads, Neatloaf, sandwiches, and more for lunch.

Victory's BannerThe restaurant is vegetarian, but you won’t miss meat, with all of the delicious goodness that is being served. Best of all is the atmosphere- Victory’s Banner strives to provide a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere – they welcome families (plenty of toys around) and serve delicious coffee – enough to make you want to sit and rest a bit. The owners and employees study with the Indian Spiritual Master Sri Chinmoy. Yes, it has something to do with spiritual enlightenment, but the waffles are a great start to your own enlightenment.

Victory’s Banner is located at 2100 W. Roscoe, Chicago, IL. Entrées are under $10.
