Two of this year’s Best Actress Oscar-nominated performances are submitted this week for your approval.

Walk the Line (2-Disc Collector’s Edition)
Here’s your chance to see why Reese Witherspoon should and will win Best Actress honors this year. Her performance as June Carter is nuanced and compelling and it doesn’t hurt that she can sing like a mofo. You can also see why in a year without Philip Seymour Hoffman knocking one out of the park as Truman Capote, Joaquin Phoenix’s Johnny Cash would be the performance to beat. James Magnold’s direction, lost in the shuffle of kudos, is stronger than ever and ties these great portrayals together in a film that is as much love story as biopic.

The special edition adds two featurettes and three music videos to the regular edition features, which include director’s commentary and 10 deleted scenes.

Pride & Prejudice
Truth be told, this has nothing on the five-hour BBC version (except for not being five hours long). That having been said, Best Actress nominee Keira Knightley gives a strong performance and all involved (including director Joe Wright and adapters Deborah Moggach and Emma Thompson) acquit themselves admirably. Still, for my money, if you’re gonna do the P&P thing, do it like a man. Five hours straight strapped in with Colin Firth, yo.

Lots and lots of featurettes, including one on Jane Austen herself, plus director’s commentary.

Lady and the Tramp (50th Anniversary Edition)
If all you remember about this classic is two dogs eating one strand of spaghetti, here’s your chance to see that there were actually other scenes in the movie. This being a Disney special edition, it’s tricked out to the gills. However, some of the features let us know that it really has been fifty years. There’s a virtual pet you can take care of and a personality profile called “Your Inner Bark.”

The Ice Harvest
It seemed everything was going so well. John Cusack was returning to the dark comedy in which he thrived with such films as Grosse Pointe Blank. Harold Ramis was going to do his first really funny comedy since Groundhog Day. Oliver Platt was going to be in a movie. Unfortunately, none of these elements congealed the way they were supposed to, paralleling the plot of this heist-gone-wrong comedy.

Extras include director’s commentary and featurettes, plus outtakes with Billy Bob Thornton.

Yours, Mine & Ours
When the Steve Martin headlined remake of Cheaper by the Dozen grossed over $138 million at the box office, someone, somewhere stumbled across the 1968 comedy Yours, Mine and Ours, decided that the modern day equivalent of Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda was Renee Russo and Dennis Quaid, and set this movie in motion. That may not be exactly how this film came to be, but it makes about as much sense as any other causal chain that could result in this rather unfortunate outcome.

Lots of featurettes with names like “Your Big Break! – Advice for Aspiring Young Actors” and “Setting Sail with the Coast Guard.”

Take your pick of the following adjectives to describe a couple of this week’s long list releases:
