Reese Witherspoon, born Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon, is an American film actress. She was born in New Orleans in 1976 and grew up in Nashville, Tennessee. Witherspoon’s break-out role was the scheming high school student government candidate Enid Flick in the 1999 film “Election,” which also starred Matthew Broderick. Witherspoon also starred in such hits as “Legally Blond” and “Pleasantville” before winning a Best Actress Academy Award for her portrayal of country singer June Carter in the 2005 Johnny Cash biopic “Walk the Line.” Witherspoon is now of the biggest stars in Hollywood.
Witherspoon’s personal life has been the subject of much attention in the press. She was married to fellow actor Ryan Phillipe for 8 years. She and Phillipe have two children, Ava and Deacon. Following her divorce from Phillipe, Witherspoon had a high-profile relationship with actor and heartthrob Jake Gyllenhaal, who is several years younger than Witherspoon, but that relationship ended after several years. In 2011, she married CAA agent Jim Toth, who represents Matthew McConaughey among other stars, at an intimate ceremony on her Ojai, California ranch. Witherspoon is also noted for her fashion sense and for her work to raise money for breast cancer-related causes.
Witherspoon received the MTV Movie Generation Award at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards. The award was presented by Witherspoon’s “Water for Elephants” co-star Twilight heartthrob, Robert Pattinson.
