The exposure standard for mobile phones utilizes a unit of measurement called the SAR (standard absorption rate). The industry standard, set by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is currently 1.6 W/Kg. averaged over 1 gram of body tissue. Each mobile phone user guide should have the applicable SAR published in the section on Radio Waves. Some scientists believe, however, that the SAR standard is too high and should be set at about 1.04 W/Kg.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed concerns about low frequency magnetic fields. Examples are:

Concerns have been expressed that exposure to extremely low frequency (ELF) magnetic fields at power frequencies (50/60 Hz) could lead to an increased incidence of cancer in children and other adverse health effects. The evidence comes primarily from residential epidemiological studies. These studies suggest that children exposed to ELF magnetic fields have an associated increased risk of leukaemia.

WHO has commissioned a long-term study called the International EMF Project. The purpose of the project is to provide a coordinated international response to concerns about possible health effects of exposure to EMF. Ultimately, WHO seeks to provide information on the management of EMF protection programmes for member states including reports on EMF risk detection and hazards resulting from EMF exposure and mitigation.

Dr. George Carlo, an expert in the field of Cell Phone EMF Research, was hired by the cell phone Industry to prove that cell phones were safe. After years of research, Dr. Carlo could find no evidence that cell phones were safe.

Dr. Carlo’s research showed that people who use cell phones have three times the risk of developing brain and eye cancers. Dr. Carlo also found that cell phone radiation from repeated use disrupted the blood/brain barrier and damaged the DNA.

Pong Research has produced a cell phone case that provides EMF protection. The iPhone case is designed to protect users while optimizing the phone’s signal. FCC laboratories have shown this case to reduce cell phone radiation up to 91 percent below the international safety limits.

The Pong case is embedded with a specially manufactured antenna, which reroutes the potentially damaging electromagnetic radiation away from the head while simultaneously reducing the radiation exposure. Before the Pong case, users were limited to fewer remedies like keeping mobile phones away from the body or using a headphone.

Research on electromagnetic radiation is continuing. The end result is to articulate the dangers and educate the public while formulating new products and processes to deal with electromagnetic radiation both cheaply and effectively.

About Dr Joseph S Maresca

I've taught approx. 34 sections of collegiate courses including computer applications, college algebra, collegiate statistics, law, accounting, finance and economics. The experience includes service as a Board Director on the CPA Journal and Editor of the CPA Candidates Inc. Newsletter. In college, I worked as a statistics lab assistant. Manhattan College awarded a BS in an allied area of operations research. The program included courses in calculus, ordinary differential equations, probability, statistical inference, linear algebra , the more advanced operations research, price analysis and econometrics. Membership in the Delta Mu Delta National Honor Society was granted together with the degree. My experience includes both private account and industry. In addition, I've worked extensively in the Examinations Division of the AICPA from time to time. Recently, I passed the Engineering in Training Exam which consisted of 9 hours of examination in chemistry, physics, calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, probability/ statistics, fluids, electronics, materials science/structure of matter, mechanics, statics, thermodynamics, computer science, dynamics and a host of minor subject areas like engineering economics. A very small percentage of engineers actually take and pass the EIT exam. The number has hovered at circa 5%. Several decades ago, I passed the CPA examination and obtained another license in Computer Information Systems Auditing. A CISA must have knowledge in the areas of data center review, systems applications, the operating system of the computer, disaster recovery, contingency planning, developmental systems, the standards which govern facility reviews and a host of other areas. An MBA in Accounting with an Advanced Professional Certificate in Computer Applications/ Information Systems , an Advanced Professional Certificate in Finance and an Advanced Professional Certificate in Organizational Design were earned at New York University-Graduate School of Business (Stern ). In December of 2005, an earned PhD in Accounting was granted by the Ross College. The program entrance requires a previous Masters Degree for admittance together with a host of other criteria. The REGISTRAR of Ross College contact is: Tel . US 202-318-4454 FAX [records for Dr. Joseph S. Maresca Box 646 Bronxville NY 10708-3602] The clinical experience included the teaching of approximately 34 sections of college accounting, economics, statistics, college algebra, law, thesis project coursework and the professional grading of approx. 50,000 CPA examination essays with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Additionally, membership is held in the Sigma Beta Delta International Honor Society chartered in 1994. Significant writings include over 10 copyrights in the name of the author (Joseph S. Maresca) and a patent in the earthquake sciences.

What about radiation exposure to the body, not just the head? The cell phone is usually put in a pocket located by the chest or lower body. In the news recently, there was a case where a young woman got breast cancer because she stored her cell phone in her bra. The tumor appeared where she put her cell phone. Will the case protect the body similarly?
