Reasoning Difficulties

This little video presentation, “Technical Difficulties,” is clever in its own way and some of its points are perfectly legitimate. But – damn – again I am forced to confront the utterly bewildering notion that somehow the War on Terror (wherever it may lead, including Iraq) is a case of the US, and I quote, “shooting first.”

This is preposterous: America didn’t shoot first in the Gulf War against Saddam, didn’t shoot first through numerous Islamist terror attacks against the US and its allies throughout the ’90s, culminating with the grandest “didn’t shoot first” attack of them all, 9/11/01.

My question for the creators of “Technical Difficulties” and those who think as they do is this: how much slaughter of your own people do you take before you are allowed to shoot back? Or is “shooting back” in self-defense always “shooting first”? “Waiting, containing, negotiating” have most decidedly not worked against an implacable enemy that wants nothing but OUR DESTRUCTION.

What is so difficult to understand about this? “Giving peace a chance” has been an abysmal failure. No matter how inclined you may toward peace, there comes a time when inaction yields not “peace” but ever more bloodshed of your OWN PEOPLE. This is not not “peace” – this is gross irresponsibility. Honor the 3000 dead, take responsibility for the lives of the living and for God’s sake – SHOOT BACK until those who shot first – and who continue to shoot – are dead and gone. Then we can talk about peace.
