Radio Free Ed

Our super good bud and ace Blogcritics contributor Ed Driscoll is the new Radio Free Blogcritics artist.

Ed Driscoll has been playing guitar for over twenty years. Inspired by Pete Townshend, in the mid-1980s, he began to “write” his own compositions using a four-track cassette recorder, a drum machine and synthesizer along with his guitars to play all the parts himself.

Besides Townshend, Driscoll’s other guitar influences include Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Keith Richards, and the Beatles. His production efforts have been inspired by such producers as Page, George Martin, Glyn Johns and Brian Eno.

After a long hiatus in the 1990s to establish his primary career as a journalist, he returned to recording in 2000, this time using programs such as Cakewalk’s Sonar, and software synthesizers such as Propellerhead’s Reason and Cakewalk’s Project5 to create his non-guitar parts on a specially built PC. He has written numerous articles about music, and music making, for such publications as Vintage Guitar, Computer Music, Nuts & Volts, and Poptronics, and on the Web on both Blogcritics, and his own Website.

He has recently been collaborating with Nicole Vilencia, a DJ and program director with Katy 101.3 FM in Southern California. Vilencia sang lead on several of Driscoll’s compositions, and in return, on “Dreamer’s Alibi” and “Shelter”, Driscoll wrote the music to accompany her melodies and lyrics.

Their goal is to sell their compositions to an established artist looking to increase his or her repertoire. Email their attorney ([email protected]) if you’re looking to license any of these songs.
