The Queer Eye franchise is expanding to include a new show to “fix” straight women:
- The women of America will soon have their chance to be criticized, stylized and lionized by a team of fashionable gay men.
Cable television network Bravo on Wednesday said it will create a women’s version of its smash hit series “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,” in which a team of five gay men, the “Fab Five,” show a heterosexual man how to dress, dine and design.
A Bravo spokesman said many of the details for “Queer Eye for the Straight Girl” were yet to be worked out, including how many men would star on the show and whether or not the format would be exactly the same as “Straight Guy.”
The new series, which will be set in Los Angeles, is expected to debut next year.

Okay now, if the new show is going to be the “same” in terms of dynamics, then wouldn’t the women’s show feature lesbians advising the straight women? Just asking.
Regarding the original show, I’ve watched it a few times and found it funny, informative and even touching. The most significant thing about the show, I think, is that it shows a positive interrelationship between straights and gays, where straights learn valuable skills and perspectives from gays, not just the bloodless nonrelationship of “tolerance.” It shows straight America that it’s okay to like and respect gays, and it shows gays that straights aren’t all hopeless puds.
Gay men advising straight women on how to dress, dine and design isn’t comparably revolutionary: in fact, isn’t it the norm?
