Primera Division: Madrid Loses, Barça Spills Points, and Sevilla Take The Lead

Sevilla – Osasuna 2-0

Sevilla grabbed the opportunity to take the top spot of the Primera Division by beating Osasuna. Juande Ramos’ men booked their fifth consecutive home victory by beating Osasuna 2-0. Frédéric Kanouté and Adriano Correira were the goalscorers for the new leaders of the Primera Division.

Real Madrid – Celta de Vigo 1-2

Despite his comments on Ronaldo being overweight, trainer Fabio Capello decided to give the Brazilian a starterspot at the expense of in-form Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy. The benched Van Nistelrooy did come in the second half but was unable to prevent Real Madrid from losing.

Real Madrid Real Madrid played too low paced and continued to play that way even after Emerson scored the equaliser. Celta de Vigo did not hold back and punished Real Madrid’s complacency harshly taking home the 3 points. Nené and substitute Jorge scored for Celta.

Real Zaragoza – Getafe 3-1

Real Zaragoza are closing in on Barcelona at the expense of Getafe. Getafe were down to ten men and unable to give Zaragoza a decent match. After only 11 minutes Getafe’s Ruben Pulido was red carded. And despite that Bernd Schuster’s team still managed to pull an equaliser. After half time Zaragoza struck twice to win the match and take home the three points.

Deportivo La Coruña-Barcelona 1-1

Barcelona FCDue to injuries of both Samuel Eto’o and Eidur Gudjohnsen, Javier Saviola was given a starterspot and even though he failed to impress he still proved to be of value. Saviola was assaulted many times but the Juanma assault proved to be a penalty’s worth according to the referee. Ronaldinho, who escaped a red card right before this incident, did what he had to do and scored the 1-0 from a penalty.

In the second half Deportivo piled on the pressure on FC Barcelona and a penalty was a result of their efforts. Barça goalie Victor Valdes managed to stop the penalty but was unable to stop the rebound effort from Fabián Estoyanoff. Barça did not suffer heavier losses.

Real Mallorca – Atletico Madrid 0-0

Atletico Madrid still fail to finish, even tonight versus Real Mallorca. Despite some decent efforts Mallorca’s defensive tactics paid off and both parties took home one point.

Levante – Real Sociedad 2-0

Levante scored their first win in four matches. Tonight they pushed Real Sociedad further back with a sound 2-0 victory. Albert Me Yong Ze and Laurent Courtois scored the two goals and the debut of coach Miguel Lotina ended in a disappointment.
