So far, Karmin has generated a considerable following based, for the most part, on interpretations of other artists’ songs. With their major-label debut album slated for release in the early part of next year, though, the onus is now on soon-to-be-married Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan to capitalize on that following with original music that excites listeners with as much (or more) interest and enthusiasm.

It’s a challenge to be sure, but it’s one for which they seem to have long prepared. Heidemann and Noonan honed their respective chops while students at Berklee College of Music in Boston, each participating in school-sponsored musical events as well as in various groups of their own design and purpose. Since coming together as Karmin, they’ve written and released a fair share of original material, but their covers have largely overshadowed it. Of course, the exposure those covers have received — whether on YouTube or at online-music outlets — has undoubtedly brought their own creations even greater attention.

In fact, one of those original songs, “Take It Away,” was chosen by the NBA to play during last season’s NBA Finals (earlier this year) featuring the Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat. Karmin even appeared in the 30-second spot, performing a bit of the track for a worldwide television audience.

And on Tuesday, the official video was released for Karmin’s Epic Records debut single, “Crash Your Party,” introducing them to the masses as made-for-primetime pop stars. As they prepare for their forthcoming album to reach a whole new legion of listeners, Karmin will in turn garner more scrutiny from fans and critics alike, but all that is part and parcel of being recording artists in their own right.
