Ann and Nancy Wilson of the rock group "Heart" infuriated at the use of their '70s rock anthem.
It seems that the Republican National Convention and Presidential hopeful John McCain tried to take America to “heart”, and Heart stated in no uncertain terms that they didn’t want their “heart” stolen. Apparently Alaska Governor Sarah Palin was given the nickname “Sarah Barracuda” whilst a star high school basketball player, referring to Heart’s 1977 rock hit, prompting the RNC to use the song as her theme music at the Republican convention.…

This will not do!

Lisa, if you're typical of the current left I can understand why they are in such disrepute. Like you they must not be able to tell truth from fiction and make decisions based solely on partisanship.
Dave, read SOMETHING for a change. She said Obama had not written any legislation. He has.
No. She said that he "is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or even a reform"
Name a major piece of legislation which Obama AUTHORED. Not co-sponsored or voted for, but which he or even his staff actually authored and which established an important law or new policy or even did away with something significant. You can't.
Do a search on thomas.gov. No bill Obama has authored has ever passed into law. In fact, no bill he has ever even signed onto as a sponsor has passed, except for non-binding resolutions and some minor amendments to other bills.
So her claim was absolutely correct.
She said she did not support the Bridge to Nowhere. She did, until she got static.
No, what she said was "I told the Congress "thanks, but no thanks" on that bridge to nowhere." And in fact that is ultimately what she did. Despite having initially supported the bridge she ultimately decided NOT to build it when given control over the money.
She said she was against earmarks. She wasn't, she was for them; in fact,
Not exactly. The record shows that she was for receiving federal money, but opposed to having it earmarked to specific projects and in fact what she's been criticized on over the 'bridge to nowhere' is getting the project cancelled and keeping the money to spend on other road building projects. Like a lot of governors she has been an advocate for local control over how federal money is spent but not necessarily an opponent of receiving federal funds for her state.
she was on McCain's shitlist for them, three times.
So you're saying that as a mayor it was wrong for her to seek federal money for things her town needed when those programs existed?
Can you differentiate between the responsibility of local politicians to look out for the interests of their people and the desire of politicians at a higher level of government to fight against unnecessary spending in the form of earmarks?
And it was not Palin on McCain's list, it was the legislation which included those earmarks.
Oh, and regarded the spurious claim about her plane which was posted elswewhere, she did not say she sold it on ebay, she said:
"That luxury jet was over the top. (Cheers, applause.) I put it on eBay."
She did indeed 'put it on eBay.' Not surprisingly it didn't sell, but she deserves credit for trying the idea, and she did not claim that it sold, so in fact she told the truth.
And and on and on and on. It's all there in the parsing of her speech. I don't know why you refuse to even look at her record versus what the Repubs wrote for her. It's shameless, really. Worse than shameless.
I have looked at her record, which you clearly have not done. You also seem not to be familiar with Obama's virtually non-existent record.
"Interpretation of facts," indeed. You are a true Republican. No wonder no one trusts you guys.
Everyone starts with the same facts. At least I only interpret what their significance is, rather than just outright denying and making stuff up as too many on the left do - including those you get your talking points from.
And, Obama does write his own speeches.
Oh come on. It was in Newsweek. That's hardly an obscure source. He has three staff speechwriters, Jon Favreau, Adam Frankel and Ben Rhodes. Ted Sorensen has come in as an additional heavy hitter and adviser to the speechwriters who are his proteges, as noted by ABC News. So can we have no more of this "Obama writes his own speeches" crap?
So, every one of your claims that Palin lied was at best a distortion and except perhaps for the earmarks issue, an outright lie. How can you live with yourself?
Dave

NR,
Hanging in, cancer free for the moment (cross those fingers),
I didn't know. If only you had told me....
Life goes on by the Grace of G-d, my dear friend. I'll have to make sure I get to shul to have them say a blessing over you, and when my wife kneads Hallót Friday, I'll remind her to add your name in with the others who receive prayers for full recovery from illness.
What is you mother's name?
Blessings from Ma'alé Levoná,

P.S. I think about you a lot also. Now, I'll be thinking a lot more....

#114: In my mind there is no difference between a bleeding heart Liberal and a member of Pat Robertson's congregation. Both sides blindly espouse their point of view forgetting the bigger picture.
Oh, yes!

Dear God Clavos!
136 - Jet
I must be using a different dictionary. What exactly is your definition of a liberal?
Wait will I duck.
137 - Silas Kain
A liberal: a female who does not wear a bra and could use a D cup or a male with enticing dimensions going commando.
A conservative: a woman who thinks Vaseline is a lubricant or a male who frequents the men's room in airports.
Does that explain it, Jet?
138 - Jet
Where does Dolly Parton fall into that?
139 - Silas Kain
Good question, Jet. Drag queens are neither conservative or liberal -- discuss.
140 - Jet
Drag Queen? One of my favorite movie quotes is from Victor Victoria.
A French policeman has just gone into Victor's dressing room and came out a moment later.
Cop (annoyed): That's a man in there!
Private detective: But it can't be, I saw with my own eyes!
cop: Well the person in that room was naked from the waist down, and if that was a woman, she was wearing the greatest disguise I have ever seen!
141 - Jet
Oh God!!!!! THAT'S IT!!!! The only way the GOP could back a woman VP is if she's a drag Queen!!!!
142 - Cannonshop
um...Jet? Drag Queens don't have babies.

Um... Cannon? Kindly explain the mechanics behind your reasoning.

I have never written anything here before, but after reading through the comments, the only thing that came to my mind to say (because everyone here makes a good point-I'm more Libertarian)is, I wish there wasn't so much ANGER in our country between parties. It seems that anymore, both sides can't make a point without being so angry, and demeaning to the other. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, I just wish all of the anger would go away, whether you're a celebrity or whatever.
I enjoyed reading the comments here. I hope everyone has a nice week.

Welcome to the conversation Donna... did you at least read the article?
146 - Donna Hardin
Thanks for the welcome. I have read a couple of them today. I read this article too. It seems like the celebrities anymore are "extreme" left, and are so angry and vocal these days. "Extreme" either side, gets pretty nasty.

This whole pig thing is about as stupid as the muslims calling for jihad over a Mohamed cartoon!
If she's going to let something like that upset her, I hate to think what would set her off after she takes office.
148 - Donna Hardin
I agree about the pig thing,& the media has gone over the top with it.Now everyone's feeding on it. They need to get back to the real issues.
Donna H.
149 - Donna Hardin
I think the "pig" comment probably upset her "fan base" more than it upset her. Hopefully, she is fairly thick-skinned.

150 - Lisa Solod Warren
the pig thing wasn't about her, good God, how effing shameless are the Repubs anyway??????
151 - Clavos
Pig or not, there are millions more just like her out there who want her for veep, and will likely vote for her.
It's called democracy.
152 - Jet
Interesting Clavos, if a concept falls your way it's called democracy, but against it and it's "liberal"
153 - Franco
Jet, good article. I agree with your stand because I believe it is on the side of the law as has been pointed out by several others with working knowledge of this.
However I think Dave and some others have also made some good arguments as to why the laws could/should be challenged.
As Dave says, "To me the key issue is whether the artist is deprived of anything by this. Their rights to the work are not infringed and if they are paid they lose nothing of monetary value. Their political sensitivity has no cash value and should have no standing."
If they were not paid then the RNC sould do so, and if that comes to a court fight over value then it will be worked out there. The RNC could have known the the artist would not have given permission and so want the route and would try to settle out of court with a fee. Who knows.
I know you love to take shots at conservatives but this one is really not going out of its way to stretch an attack. I think its good work.
154 - Jet
Franco, thanks. This is the same as if the McCain campaign took a bunch of quotes out of my recent article on Obama, where I said he was doing harm to the democratic's chances of gaining the whitehouse and used them in a speech.
I called them up and said, stop using my words.
While that in itself is wrong, suppose they later ignored me and used some of those same quotes in a pamphlet sold at campaign stops that they were using to raise funds-again without my permission.
The Wilson sisters still own those songs, an investor did not own them as is the case of the Beatles catalogue when it was sold to Michael Jackson.
If Beatles tunes showed up in tennis shoe commercials, Paul McCartney couldn't object, because he no longer holds title to the songs.
However the Wilson sisters do hold title to their music, and can object legally to it being used without their permission, especially since they are on record as telling the GOP not to do it, and they went ahead and did it again.

Reasoning explained thus:
A Drag Queen is a male, who dresses as a female and adopts a mock-female persona for the purpose of public performance art (such as lip-synching, singing, or dancing, though comedy and, here in Washington, there is a Bingo event periodically run by DQ's in Seattle.)
Drag Queens generally don't have a biological structure known as a "Uterus", as their reproductive organs are mounted externally to shed heat, they also don't have something called "Ovaries". These are critical structures for the carrying of a fetus to term. People who have a Uterus and Ovaries, and cross-dress, are often called "Drag Kings" (Women who dress as men as part of a public performance). Women can get pregnant-(Biologically) Men/Males generally can not (biologically) get pregnant. Sarah Palin has, (according to public record, with tangible, testable product) been pregnant five times.
In the absence of evidence to the contrary that can be reviewed, therefore, Sarah Palin is a woman, and not a Drag Queen.
This hypothesis can be examined for confirmation, and has a better than 90% chance of being true (that is, not-being-disproven by objective data.)
156 - Dr Dreadful
Oh, you meant doing the actual having of the babies. I see.
I was thinking less literally. Many drag queens are fathers, of course, and the vast majority of them, with the exception of those who've undergone drastic surgery, are capable of generating those small wriggly howling things known in the vernacular as babies.
157 - Jet
Dear God, what have I done? IT WAS A JOKE, NOT A BIOLOGY CLASS for erstwhile drag queens...
