Why Abstinence Education Does Not Work (and It's not What you Think) - Comments Page 2

The obstacles abstinence education faces is not abstinence but a culture married to a 7th grade ideology of sex.

Every few months the abstinence education advocates and the comprehensive sex ed advocates trade studies back and forth. "Comprehensive sex ed works!" "Abstinence education works!" The back-and-forth clubbing of studies may make for good headlines but largely misses the point.…

bambenek can't take it! mike's goes out of his way to NOT claim a direct correlation and john still gets up in a huff!

    "flaccid." <--that's classic.

it is interesting. is there a link to the study?

(and it's fuckin obvious that abstinence-only education is stupid.)

Yeah... one program supposedly a failure, that means all programs, no matter how different, as long as the diverge from the promiscuity education that people are shoving in kids' pants, must be BANNED. BANNED I tell you.

Where can I burn some books?

    "promiscuity education."

yeah, showing the pictures of sores on penises and bumps all over vaginas is really a turn-on. shut the fuck up.

i read something about the study today. it basically said that there IS and ALWAYS WILL BE a certain percentage of teenagers who are going to have sex no matter what you tell them and especially if you tell them not to.

telling them how to do so in such a way that their privates don't burn, they don't get pregnant or catch aids is a good thing. and as far as i remember it, abstinence was ALWAYS and REPEATEDLY brought up as the first and best option.

#28: that's obvious since there is about, what 6 Billion of us? 6.5?
20 and 21:john I say that Michael was making more sense then the pirates/global warming
plus aren't you adding to the problem just then?
we need to beat the living crud out of society until it dies, not making it grow and not really giving a Sh*t
to the article in general: pretty awesome if I say so myself
so let me see if if any solution can be gathered out of this wealth of info
    ...
    ...
    looks like we need to
    A:murder rock and roll
B:beat the sh*t out of CCM until it goes back to where it came from
C:Beat the crap out of Hypocritical church leaders
    D:Wake up the church
E:and make everyone forget about stuff like the crusades so Abstinence until marriage in religious hands isn't looking evil
that or Jesus coming back pissed as hell would be enough of a radical change of society (both)
    oh yeah
F: having Neo Con hypocrites in charge of everything like fascists
sadly for that to happen we would have to move to mars and say **** society
    BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD

Some stupid liberal is going to try and claim that contraceptive based health education is the reason for a decrease in teen pregnancy but its not. And in fact increasing the teen pregnancy rate is increasing as we speak. And John's right the reason why teens are having sex so much is because of the culture. The abstinence only programs should also demonize the sexually explicit content in the media. And also Georgia has an asbitinence only program and teen pregnancy rates have DROPPED 50&!!!

the reason why teens are having sex so much is because...

...they like sex and they're ready. Parents might not be ready. But that doesn't mean teens aren't. It's nothing new or unusual.

Try to calm down and accept this. It's much better for teens to have real experiences anyway. If you have a good relationship, you can be of assistance when it's time. If not, your teen is at risk of becoming a parent.
