What the Heck is Sarah Palin Running for - VP or God? - Comments Page 3

Seeking out the real Sarah Palin is a necessary process that should not be derailed because she is a woman.

This piece is aimed at those of you who have placed this pseudo netting of protection around Sarah Palin and her family. Running for political office is nothing more than an invitation to have your past opened, judgments critiqued, words construed and fortitude tested. The Kennedys, Clintons, Bushes and Obamas have all withstood this same scrutiny. No politician has ever been (or ever will be) exempted from, or too sacred for, this public litmus test.…

troll - no I don't, but then again I'm not in the business of running a programme, I'm commenting on a website.

Clavos - I didn't say there shouldn't be advice as to how to handle food safely, I was simply pointing out one of the many absurdities written in a religious book. I'm pretty sure that the majority of people in S-S-A and LA aren't Jewish.

Tell me though, do you enjoy posting somewhat irrelevant comments or do you just like to argue?

As I have experience in faith on both extreems of the spectrum, I know how personal faith is, and I'm asking everyone to lay off of each other...

    Please

I've been as convinced that there is a God/supreme being/creator as I was that there isn't.

Chris' believes are his own and should not be belittled one way or the other, nor should yours, nor should mine...

the fact that Chris is pregnant with yet another illegitimate child who will probably be born with six toes should be openly discussed imo

Perhaps if we spent a little LESS time concentrating our efforts on all these sensationalist, trash talk websites we'd learn something. Here are a few sources for news and information. These are three of four sites (the 4th being BBC News) I read twice per day in my quest to get real news:

    France 24

    Nikkei News

    Al-Arabiya

Most Americans aren't interested in how the rest of the world views them. As for you, I applaud your courage and integrity. I wish more of your countrymen/women were like you.

Most of us have cable or satellite. Even for those who don't read, you can always tune in Newsnight on BBCA. Hell, PBS cribs half their reports from the BBC.

"Advice on how to handle foods safely" is exactly what those "absurdities written in a religious book" are originally about.

Clavos, sure - but you can't cherry pick bits and pieces of a set of dogma. Just cos one part of it made sense in the context of ancient Israel then doesn't mean it has a universal relevance to all Jews today, many of whom live comfortably. It was just a simple example of what is wrong with this creed. A pointless exercise I know, but we try!

Ruvy, I grew up around Mormons, Hippies, and Survivalists. That the Modern World is fragile and must be maintained and protected has been on the order of an article of faith for me since I was old enough to know that pink porkchops is bad for you, and red spots in eggs is bad too. (about age 7 or so, my parents liked to discuss things like literature, history, and science at the kitchen table... often to the point of nauseating my grandmother with details.)

one of their favoured topics on Sundays while my sister was in her "Christian" phase, was religion-as in the practical reasons behind some religious practices, based on what we know today from Science. (also debunking miracles was a popular one, and going over the contradictions in the bible.)

The question came up once, "Why don't Arabs drink beer?" and the answer may surprise some of our posters here- aside from being forbidden by the qu'ran, Alcohol consumption accellerates the negative effects of dehydration and heat-injury. In the desert, the choice between drinking beer, and drinking piss, choose the piss, you'll live longer while looking for water. Use the beer as an External coolant-that is, pour it on your clothing and let it evaporate.

    Cannonshop,

After living here for seven years, I've come to realize how fragile "modernity" is. I see cops and Border Guards imbibing Coke and shake my head. Coke, laden with sugar, only makes your thirsty. Water, by contrast quenches thirst. These Coke drinking cops (and loads of other Israelis as well) foolishly imbibe American culture. I, knowing better, stick with stuff that won't kill me from thirst. And given the choice of water, beer or piss, I'll choose water any day.

Some Jews I know blow their gaskets when they see Moslem women dressed modestly. But the fools fail to realize the real security threats they face - some Arab terrorist tampering with the water or the National Water Carrier. This has already happened here, and the government has suppressed news of it, fearing that its "peace" plans would be blown to bits.

Palin said she put that superfluous jetplane on eBay. She didn't mention that IT DIDN'T SELL! Only got one qualified bid. Had to be sold AT A LOSS thru a broker.

Meanwhile, McCain ran off enthusiastically saying it sold AT A PROFIT!

    Oops!

They must have had an interesting conversation afterwards, knowing McCains temper. Do you suppose he used the dreaded "C word" on her?

  • 97 - Cannonshop

    Sep 08, 2008 at 7:40 am

Well, Bliffle, if he did, she probably countered with a few choice words of her own. Sarah's reputation says she's probably got a thicker skin than you do, and since her husband's a Union Member, she probably hears worse from his co-workers at barbecues.

The "loss" is only sale-price, not the thousands that a jet like that costs to maintain in airworthy condition.

Yeah, Ruvy. Caffeine also helps dehydrate you, I'm kind of surprised Israeli cops and troops would be allowed to drink soda-pop at all while on duty. One of the reasons the Mormons ban Caffeine, is that it's a Diuretic, and helps dehydrate your body.

I'm not, however, all that surprised that Israelis imbibe richly and deeply of what you call "american" culture, Ruvy. Let's face it, what's erupted since the end of the early sixties in this country is an obsession with instant gratification of desires combined with an allergy to hard work. It runs from Corporate obsession with short-term "profit" that ignores the long-term losses, to the idea that opening the Strategic Reserve (a couple days of oil stored in barrels) will somehow 'fix' a crisis rooted in the gutting of domestic production, to the idea of interest-only and zero-down mortgages linked to 'flipping' houses that had people with no assets, income, or collateral buying houses at inflated prices, then selling them for inflated prices until the balloon hit the point where the market would no longer bear it, and don't forget the abandonment of Excellence by corporate leadership in favour of mediocrity in the name of cutting costs. (this is weighing heavily on my mind of late-we're on strike, and beyond the Union's pathetic socialist rhetoric, the real reason is that our "Corporate Leadership" in Chicago have been slowly looting and gutting the company, while setting up a program that can't meet its goals because they outsourced core competencies to the lowest bidder, including Engineering, parts control, logistics and supply, and even the documentation for production. In my opinion, they've lied to investors, customers, and Regulators and have built a record of being unethical in all dealings for more than a decade.)

It's pretty easy to get people to act stupid if they just forget what the consequences are.

    @#96,

    YAWN...

I'm sure they both lost a lot of sleep over an issue so vital to national security as are the details of the (very appropriate) sale of the Alaska Governor's airplane, which (gasp! horror!) as a depreciating asset, was sold at a loss!

There have been several comments here and elsewhere to the effect that Governor Palin thinks that abstinence is the only acceptable form of birth control. I had read the same thing so frequently that I more or less accepted that as her position. This morning, I read an article containing some excerpts from a 2006 debate during the Alaskan election campaign for governor. Here is what she was asked and what she said:

In a recent survey you said that you would support abstinence-until-marriage education but that you would not support explicit sex-ed programs. What are explicit sex-ed programs, and does that include talking about condoms in school?

Palin's answer: No, I don't think that it includes something that is relatively benign. Explicit means explicit. No, I am pro-contraception, and I think kids who may not hear about it at home should hear about it in other avenues. So I'm not anti-contraception. But yeah, abstinence is another alternative that should be discussed with kids. I don't have a problem with that. That doesn't scare me, so it's something that I would support also.
According to the article, a "video [is available] on C-Span's website of the August, 2006 Republican debate in the Alaska governor's race." I haven't watched it yet, but will do so when I have a chance.

You trust the economy to this woman? Why did she not know this. Please when you finish making excuses for her, just think about it!

McCain's running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, speaking in Colorado Springs, Colo., said Fannie and Freddie had "gotten too big and too expensive to the taxpayers."

The companies, however, aren't taxpayer funded but operate as private companies.

This is in an ABC article, I don't know how to make links, so can't do that here. The title of the article is: Sarah Palin Defends Experience, Takes Hard Line Approach on National Security

The article says: "Palin has also recently come under fire for dismissing a librarian while she was mayor of Wasilla in 1996. The librarian lost her jobs after telling Palin she would not remove books if the mayor deemed them offensive."

So, my original ideas about the fact certain people may not have been alowed to think were not so far-fetched, the extreme Christian groups do try to limit access and control what people think and limit curiosity.

This points out one really scary thing: Freedom of Speech is not something she knows about. And, again, the vindictive issue arises.

The article says: "Palin has also recently come under fire for dismissing a librarian while she was mayor of Wasilla in 1996. The librarian lost her jobs after telling Palin she would not remove books if the mayor deemed them offensive."

Snopes.com says that story is false.

    So does FactCheck:

She did not demand that books be banned from the Wasilla library. Some of the books on a widely circulated list were not even in print at the time. The librarian has said Palin asked a "What if?" question, but the librarian continued in her job through most of Palin's first term.
