We need leaders who prevent terrorism, not cause it - Comments Page 2

There is a massive failure of leadership in the U.S. and U.K. When our people die, what we get from blowhards Bush and Blair is nothing but therapy, about how the terrorists hate our freedoms, and that we will stand up to them and win, because ours are the values of life and hope, and theirs are the values of death and destruction.…

    >>5 individuals, with no regard to living past the detonation...each at chem plants, chlorine storage...even power lines ...could be quite terrifying...<<

I was thinking in terms of professional bombings that could be repeated because the bombers and bomb makers survived. Taking survival out of the scenario changes everything, of course. If that's the case I just load up a mini-van with the right mix of volatile chemicals and ram myself at high speed into a church or a pre-school.

I do agree that our preparations are weak, though. I'm frankly amazed we haven't already experienced another major terrorist attack. I can drive through Austin and spot multiple virtually unprotected targets which could be hit with devastating results.

Some Interesting ideas about stopping Israel, but illogical statements about Saudi Arabia!!!! I guess if all countries fight terrorism in the same good well and decisiveness of Saudi Arabi, the world would be better. Saudis are the core country in OPEC who supply more oil and try to keep oil prices under control. We should think of Saudis are our friends who stands firm beside us when ever we face any crisis, not to mention that they suffer from terrorism just like us. As Americans, we must keep in mind that we have mutual interests with Saudi Arabia more than any country in the Med East. Let us not let our feelings overcome our rationality.

Has anyone ever tried to analyze the mindframes of these suicide bombers? Obviously, they're prepared to off themselves - but would they do it if they knew that by so doing they would be condemning their families - parents, siblings, kids if any - to being hunted down & held accountable in their place? It might give a lot of them pause that they don't have when it's only themselves in jeopardy. Most people almost anywhere are willing to endure quite a bit - even death - for their ideologies, but would be very hesitant if their own loved ones became innocent victims of their actions. Has this ever been thought of or done?

The families of suicide bombers only get held accountable in Israel. In the countries they come from where their families are desparately poor the families get paid $10K by Al Qaeda for their suicide bombing efforts.

Good Post. I agree with most of it. It is a difficult issue though since we shouldnt forget that even if we do everything the terrorists want (i.e., leave the middle east completely) they will still attack us since we will never allow Israel to be removed from the planet, and sadly even that probably would not stop them.

The fight against terrorism needs to begin in the mosques with real dialogue between clerics with widely different educational foundations and experiences. Fighting terror with terror seems moranic. What is more, we will never know who the real mercenaries of these atrocious act are.
I am holding my breath everytime i log on to news sites , waiting for the news that bombs long ago hidden under neath NYC have been detonated. Anyone who has seen the homeless wandering in and out of the tunnels knows how accessible they have always been unlike the tube. If we actually have a religious jihad activated by more willfully ignorant demon seeds willing to perpetuate the demigoggery than we really are in a world of trouble. But pouring more money into the local militia fund for more ammunition and hardwares for men to police the street is hardly a solution. If we had an enemy lurking amongst us all along- come on people- how naive is our collective conscious supposed to be >? Do we have to be>? and for how long?
