    For Dr.D,

The last hitchhiker I ever picked up:

It was about 1981. I had always picked up hitchhikers having been one. Especially when I lived in CA. I didn't notice the shotgun/rifle (not sure of the difference) until he was seated in the backseat. Assuring me he was a hunter and my life wasn't coming to an end.

The fact that he was telling the truth made me feel lucky to learn a lesson the easy way.

I suppose I could have chosen a better pic for my Eurocritics profile, Cindy.

    Actually, I couldn't. I don't photograph very well.

I took that one of myself on my cellphone at the optometrist's. I was trying out some new frames for prescription sunglasses. I liked that one*, so I kept it.

I haven't hitchhiked since 1980, when me, my dad and my brother were hiking in the wilds of central Wales and were in danger of missing the last train of the day unless we could get to the station at considerably faster than walking pace.

These days, alas, the driver is just as likely to be a foaming maniac as the hitchhiker is.

    * The photo and the frames!

And if your hitchhiker was a hunter, I doubt it was a shotgun - unless it was elephants he was after...

    Dr.D,

Your pic is lovely. Nothing personal, mind you. I'd say the same thing to anyone.

I predict Iceland will sink fast into the bowels of corruption especially now that they're looking toward Russia for major financial stabilization. I wonder how many lobbyists on K Street work for the poorer countries? Seek and ye shall find. Find and ye shall revolt.

    Stan,

I say we give up the spam scam and just jump Christopher Rose for his 200 million.

(still can't figure out just what kind of depraved answers lead to the character with 200 million :-)

For the effort we've all put in, I reckon we should get more than 25%.

I just had the honour of receiving another financial offer from Africa in my e-mail. It was from Ghana this time, not Nigeria, and apparently, for no readily discernible reason, the gentleman wishes to deposit his bank's $3.5 million profit into my account.

    Who wants in?

    :-D
