The Image of Mohammad, Free Speech, and Religious Outrage - Comments Page 6

In September, a dozen cartoons were published in Denmark critical of Islam, some depicting Muhammad, the prophet and founder of Islam, in an unflattering light. Many Muslims consider it blasphemy to print any image of Muhammad. One cartoon depicts Muhammad with a turban in the shape of a bomb. Another shows him at the gates of heaven, arms raised, saying to male suicide bombers, "Stop, stop, we have run out of virgins." A third has devil's horns emerging from his turban.…

But what do you expect for a book dictated by an illiterate mule-trader to his inbred relatives"comment 203. mind that a statue of the same illiterate person is in the US Supreme Court in Washington as an example of a great law-maker. also the former us president quoted His hadith (saying) when fighting a case in court. stop seeing this world through the eyes of fox tv find ur own eyes and use ur brain.

Comment #203 is ignorant; everybody starts with their own relatives - so did Jesus. So did Abraham & Moses. As for the literacy issue, in those days few were literate; no shame to Mohammad for that. He seems to have been an "average Joe" in terms of education & culture with an above-averge heart, and certainly with a good memory, to get all that down in detail without being able to write! I certainly can't remember squat if I don't make notes for myself.

And what's with this 'hahahaha' business? Do you realize how assinine you make yourself sound?

Its very sad attitude by europeon media and this shows how illiterate they people who do not know the purpose of creation of this world. This world is created only for that person Muhammad(PBUH) who is the source of model for every person to spend life according to his teachings for the success of here and afterhere.
So my advise to all those people who printed cartoons just to study the life of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) and after studing the life of prophet they will know how great he is.

For Goodness sake, will all the satirists of the world please refrain from lampooning islam and stick to what is safe practice such as sneering at Christianity and be politically correct like most Hollwood movies.

I have always felt that in 99% of the time speech should be countered with more speech, not shut down. This should have been a chance to educate people about Islam, instead of an event showing the intolerance of great segments of the Muslim population.

People, people. Friends, Christians, Muslims, Jews, Mom, Stonecutters,

One year later I still have a question: Like where did those rioting Muslims get all those Danish flags? I can't even find a Canadian one when I need it. I love Denmark, those bastards. Of all the countries to be caught in such an uproar.

We tend to not riot about these things in the West because a) we are secular b) we work c) we consume and d) well, we've civilized (or at least tamed) our savages. Sorta. If my friend came to me and said, "Hey Alex we're heading downtown to burn, kill and maim because Sinead O'Connor ripped a picture of the Pope!" I'd tell him to get a life and take care of his family. Loser. Then I'd punch him in the head.

Most comments like Gazelle et al remind me of an adage: "I killed your family because of American imperialism." Everything is reduced to some sort of moral equivalency. Murderous actions have a rational root - in this case insensitive cartoons. I'm not suggesting we should not be a little more senstive and maybe they were in poor taste but to elicit such a response? It makes little sense.

Ok, it's not an adage. I made it up. Anyway, I'm sooooo sick and tired of people equating the actions of malignant morons with what we say. Like we should feel guilty. Talk about putting freedom on the run. This was simply a stupid cartoon that was published at worst in poor taste. Big difference between poor judgement and being evil racists. Everyone is free to be an jerk. Then, the powers that be decided it was a lousy political issue. Lame.

It also completely ignores the fact that regardless of what grievance they - the Hatrocks of the Middle East - pimp out they have an agenda that operates outside the general realm of international politics. They yap about American imperialism and chirp about Zionists (and I don't mean to downplay these issues) but something tells me they'd kill Mohammed in a flash if he disgareed with them. In other words, they are clear and lucid in their plans. They are also smart, rational, lunatics (as 9/11 demonstrated*) and only Muslims (that is Arab Muslims) can quell them. Start by admitting there's a problem and stop finger pointing. Whaddya say?

The over whelming majority of people who practice Islam have nothing to be ashamed of. It's too bad a few nut heads ruin it. It's always the few who cause most of the problems. I know Muslims are normal and have a sense of humour. I watch Little Mosque on the Prairie.

I don't get number #36. Muslims built this country?

Last, what do I know? I'm just a sheltered North American who lives in the suburbs who loves Strawberry Mini-Wheats. Thus making me the perfect brainwashing candidate for George Bush and Stephen Harper. "It's a life," as Daffy Duck pragmatically once said.

*My apologies to those who believe in their minds and hearts that 9/11 was an inside job.

    My apologies for this entry.
