The Hidden Dimensions of American Politics, Part I - Comments Page 4

The modern political landscape is much more complex than you realize. The complexities are recent in coming. Do you know what they are?

It is generally true that most abstract or general principles are best illuminated by getting down to cases, the nitty-gritty, the nuts and bolts of the thing. Take the Dershowitz-Prager debate, for instance. Though the subject matter is ostensibly the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, its import transcends this by now all too familiar and perhaps over-discussed topic; what is being said is far less interesting or important than what is being left out. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this exchange, let me recap.…

Hey Roger! I just called my friends who I haven't seen for 10 years.

Here is an article by the woman who introduced me to Anarchism in 1978: The Necrophilia War

I have no idea what it is about yet. But I have to say thanks. I have always visited them you know here and there off and on.

    Time to get back together.

You've got to get away from your stagnated environment, if only for a while. The Bay Area is where you want to go - the most vibrant place in the county. Fuck Mass! - excuse the language, Mr. Rose but I couldn't help it. Me too! I'm itching to leave this God-forsaken place I'm at - it's like a hundred years behind - and get back into the rhythm and flow of life. God save California! It's the future!

LOL I doubt Christopher Rose will mind if you say "fuck". You need to loosen up. That's why this blog is good.

The Bay area. It may be fine. I have been there several times (Went to the Whole Life Expo to sell books when I had a book business, where I met a bunch of lame new agers.)

But, I like L.A. that is where I have lived many times. It's as good as the bay area, maybe better.

Anyhow, it is very cool that you got me to actually dial my friends. Thanks.

Here's an interesting article about GWB:

    Bush

    It's "Finger-pointing" time.

Remember all the times that GWB apologisis said "let's not go finger-pointing, let's get together and solve the problem"?

Well now they're going away, so we don't have to protect their delicate egos anymore.

-2001- tax cuts for the rich

The dumbest econ idea ever. Taxes should be reduced only under extreme duress, like a depression. This shifts the burden to the least paid, and ensured the economic disaster that plagued Bush thru his administration, and may yet ruin the country.

9/11/2001, Condy Rice ignores warnings and WTC is destroyed

Humiliated by the WTC fiasco, Rice and Bush lash out in all directions, culminating in the invasion of Iraq, which had nothing to do with it, while OBL escapes.

    Iraq invasion

Unwarranted, only the "True Believers" go for it. When it's quickly discovered there are no WMD, instead of standing up like a man and admitting his error, GWB lies some more.

Katrina asleep at the switch (again!) Bush stands stupidly aside while New Orleans is demolished, partly as a result of Bush's shuttling $200million of NOLA dam money to the dam invasion of Iraq.

Osama Bin Laden escapes to Pakistan and GWB is too timid to deal with it by using tough diplomacy with Pakistan because he's too busy sucking up to Musharaf.

economy is collapsing and Bush sits on his hands, babbling about tax breaks, making stupid finance industry bailouts.

    There's plenty more.

Now we can finally point the finger of scorn at the most inept president ever.

I know about Rose. I only said it out of courtesy. Judging by some maniacs on this blogsite, I am very mild and I know it. And I don't need to loosen up. I can pretty much express myself and say whatever I want without recourse to curse words. Only in bed, but that's out of affection.
I think LA's too much, though I've never been in LA proper. But in the Bay Area, you can meet the best and the worst. It comes with the territory.
Anyway, the West has always been the final frontier. Always will be. But San Francisco (and the Bay Area in general) is also a seat of culture. So you get the best of both worlds.
    Trust me!

And I don't need to loosen up.

You're right, of course, bad me for saying that.

I think we both like the part of CA we are familiar with. Okay, that's fine.

I want to see what bliffle posted.

    Blifle,

You're getting into private conversation. Just kidding!
Refer if you will to an earlier comment by me in response to the video Cindy alerted me to - Neil Diamond's on Kent State. But it's preceded by Nixon's announcement of U.S. incursion into Cambodia. One thing you could say for that guy: at least he sounded convicted. But this non-presence which has been occupying the highest position in the land, if not the world at large, is a moron. He's incapable of communicating even the strength of his convictions, if he's got any to begin with.
The pathetic thing is - we all let him get away with it - the people and the corrupt politicians from both parties - to use the same reasoning to get us into this immoral war as was used in case of Vietnam: all in name of some deranged sense of patriotism and protecting American values.
That's the greatest crime of it all, a black mark in American history. It's unfathomable!

I got your last comment. "Inept" is not the word you want to use. He's been a disgrace.
But I told you. NY and the East are only followers. The spirit lives on. Trust me!

That's the hidden and unexpected consequence of American liberal institutions and traditions of democracy: a sense of idealism we've been able to instill in generations to come. It's a fire that will never be extinguished. Why do you think I fight for her so much?
But I'm getting ahead of myself. It's Part II.

    Cindy,
What was said was right and proper from logical standpoint. But we're in a moral sphere. A far stronger language applies.

Ahhhh. Neil Young. Or MISTER Young as he is known around here for his numerous contributions to local natural preserves. A man who knows beauty when he sees it, and knows how to assure beauty's future enjoyment by all comers, and has the will and treasure to assure it.

He has to spread beauty to balance out his extraordinarily unlovely personal appearance.

    But Dave,
According to Wikipedia, he's billed as the Jewish Elvis. Or was it Neil Diamond? Gosh, I thought I had you.

    CINDY AND CO:

    Ohio lyrics/the Kent State Massacre

    Tin soldiers and Nixon coming,
    We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drumming,
    Four dead in Ohio.

    Gotta get down to it
    Soldiers are cutting us down
Should have been done long ago.
    What if you knew her
And found her dead on the ground
How can you run when you know?

    Gotta get down to it
    Soldiers are cutting us down
Should have been done long ago.
    What if you knew her
And found her dead on the ground
How can you run when you know?

    Tin soldiers and Nixon coming,
    We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drumming,
    Four dead in Ohio.

    OK, Cindy,

I'm about to start on it now; it'll take me a few days. I think I have an idea how it's going to end up. It's kind of exciting and hopeful, I think.
    Roger
