Expanded programmes on immunization and other disease control measures have helped to reduce the incidence of most of the deadly childhood diseases in Africa.
The World Health Organisation coordinators in various African countries have commended the governments in their efforts to wipe out these diseases through mass vaccination programmes.
Success in the enormous challenge of delivering polio vaccine to children in Ethiopia, Sudan and Somalia has almost wiped polio out of the Horn of Africa. This is a good index of efforts made by African leaders with the cooperation of international donors.
