The Boston Globe today hides the major thrust of the tape from Osama Bin Laden, casting it as a message “not to follow either President Bush or his challenger John F. Kerry but to change US foreign policy and stop threatening the world’s Muslims.”
Complete rubbish.
This is political spin at its finest, not journalism.
The actual transcript of the Al-Jazeera broadcast is found on the BBC. It is a virulent anti-Bush screed that repeats many charges made by Democratic thought-leader Michael Moore. It takes all of 2 minutes to read the transcript itself, and absorb some news without such overwhelming Globe-Kerry spin.
Echoing Moore, Bin Laden accuses Bush of deception, corruption, rigging the Florida election, and ignoring the attack while reading a schoolbook to a little girl (maybe he has actually seen Fahrenheit 9/11!). Here are some words of Bin Laden that you won’t find printed in the Boston Globe:
Security is an important pillar of human life. Free people do not relinquish their security. This is contrary to Bush's claim that we hate freedom. Let him tell us why we did not strike Sweden, for example. It is known that those who hate freedom do not have proud souls, like the souls of the 19 people [killed while perpetrating the 11 September 2001 attacks], may God have mercy on them. We fought you because we are free and do not accept injustice. We want to restore freedom to our nation. Just as you waste our security, we will waste your security.I am amazed at you. Although almost four years have passed since the [11 September] incidents, Bush is still practicing distortion and confusion. He also continues to conceal from you the real reason [for the 11 September attacks]. Thus, the motives still exist for repeating what happened. I will speak to you about the reasons behind these incidents. I will honestly tell you about the minutes in which the decision was made so that you will consider. I say to you that God knows that the idea of striking the towers never occurred to us. But, after things had gone too far and we saw the injustice of the US-Israeli alliance against our people in Palestine and Lebanon, I started thinking of that…

Wow.
Forbes: "...Echoing Moore, Bin Laden accuses Bush of deception, corruption, rigging the Florida election, and ignoring the attack while reading a schoolbook to a little girl..."
ALL OF WHICH ARE TRUE.

Forbes says: "...The Boston Globe today hides the major thrust of the tape from Osama Bin Laden, casting it as a message “not to follow either President Bush or his challenger John F. Kerry but to change US foreign policy and stop threatening the world’s Muslims."
And then he quotes bin Laden: "...Your security does not lie in the hands of Kerry, Bush, or al-Qaeda. Your security is in your own hands. Each and every state that does not tamper with our security will have automatically assured its own security."
--which is about as close to an exact paraphrase of the Boston Globe analysis as one can get.
Forbes; you're either an illiterate moron -- or unable to discern reality from you blind True Believer status toward your buddy Bush.
Take yer pick.

Does it really matter what bin Laden says? After all, it's not like we are making our election decisions based on the wisdom of Osama bin Laden...are we?
But consider this, our fearless "War Time President" vowed to get Osama "Dead or Alive" 3 years ago. Today Osama is "Alive and Free". In between George Bush felt that other things became more important such as a war with Iraq and diverted intelligence and troops away from the search for bin Laden.
George Bush lied when he said he would get bin Laden. Why do you believe ANYTHING George Bush says? I think there is a self-esteem issue where some people are afraid to admit that they, as average citizens, ARE more honest and better planners than the current President. Americans CAN do better, lets vote for a President who CAN focus long enough to capture bin Laden.

If Osama is so smart, and so alive, why does he use the figure of 50,000 in the WTC?

We need to print up some "OSAMA FOR KERRY" signs, pronto...

Not surprisingly, you all have missed the message Bin Laden was saying. I said it the day after 9/11. I think everyone knew it, but were afraid to say. The reason we were attacked by crazed arabs is because we back the jews. It is that simple. I am not pro-arab or pro-jew. Frankly, it is a very complex issue that my little mind can't handle. I admit, I am just a rock music guy.
However, Bin Laden's point was clean and no one will talk about it. As long as we back and bankroll the jews in the middle east... we are the enemy. Even if Kerry gets elected, we will not abandon Isreal. Ergo, we will be a target.
Get the fucking message people, Bin Laden doesn't hate freedom. That is a stupid Bushism. He hates America because we alone keep the Israeli nation alive though gobs and gobs of money. This isn't to say on any level we shouldn't be doing it. I won't pretend to understand international policy.
But know this, and it is EXTREMELY simple. The message from Bin Laden is this: We are arabs. we hate the jews and the jews hate us. As long as America sides with the Jews, they are our mortal enemies. There are the facts, without taking sides.
I dare anyone in the world to explain it more simply and honestly than that.
Thanks,
lono

If Osama is so smart, and so alive, why does he use the figure of 50,000 in the WTC?
Because 50,000 people worked in those two buildings. So, up to 50K people were attacked on 9/11, the vast majority of them surviving.
