I used to despise Michael Moore. I think his movies about Columbine and 9/11 are distortions and outright lies, but it's at least possible that his newest movie Sicko might be different. I think it is probably full of distortions and I have no use for Moore's artistic style but I am heartened by what Moore himself is doing with the profits.
Michael Moore is going to donate all of the money generated from the sale of tickets to Sicko to provide health insurance for as many uninsured people as he can. Evidently, Moore was touched by the American Idol Gives Back program that raised millions of dollars for the poor in Africa and the US. Moore believes he can start his own movement and this film is the perfect vehicle to do it.
Inside sources indicate that Moore will eat the production costs and will use every cent of money from the sale and distribution of his movie to ensure that as many uninsured as possible have health care. Moore still believes that Cuba's system is superior to ours, but believes that if he produces a film that points out perceived problems in the health care industry and then does nothing about it he will be a hypocrite, something he does not want to be.
Sources also say that this is not a ploy to get the US to drop its investigation of his potentially illegal trip to Cuba. Evidently, Moore is willing to let the chips fall where they may on this issue so long as he can get insurance for as many people as possible.
Skeptics doubt Moore has good intentions and believe he is only stroking his own narcissistic ego but others familiar with the producer say he truly believes in this cause. One source even said that Moore was going to donate 1 million dollars of his own money to the insurance cause. Rumors that Moore was trying to take the wind out of American Idol's sails by becoming a one man social cause are unfounded, insiders say.
This is nice of him. Maybe if he can use some of that money to send ILLEGALS home there will be even less of a burden on the health care system and my premiums will go down.

Very creative to come up with a concept that is so far fetched.
Fun post. Althought the following reads like a dig at Moores bulk:
"Inside sources indicate that Moore will eat the production costs..."

It wasn't intended that way but now that you mention it...
3 - Concerned
Get over your partisan issues, folks and read this. That would make us a dictatorship, and NOBODY wants that.

Michael Moore is ultimately fighting the good fight and few others are willing to put their money and their art on the line for such lofty causes.
I'll admit I didn't care for his bullying of Chuck Heston in "Columbine" or the endless examples of Bush's stupidity in F-911. But so what? The Bush administration, Walmart and HMO's are doing more damage to this country than illegal immigrants ever will and at this stage Moore might be the only person even making them NERVOUS.

Moore is a narcissistic propagandist and a pathological liar. I'm not sure he'd know the 'good fight' if it bit him on the ass.

Dave: I'll go along with you on this one.

I encourage everyone to go to the theaters and see "SICKO" and then write reviews on BlogCritics about it.
Just do me one favor: Buy your movie ticket for a different film, and then sneak in to the room that's playing Moore's latest anti-American flick.
Moore is a socialist who doesn't care about making evil money, right? So, he wouldn't mind... ;-)

Moore is a patagonian liar and should be given 30....no, make that 32 lashes, for helping to hide Saddam Hussein's nuclear missiles and death ray arsenal. Moore fools people into thinking he's overweight but he's really bulging with weapons he smuggled out of Baghdad.

"I'll see you in Cuba"
Irving Berlin
Ever since the U.S.A went dry
Ev'rybody's going there and I'm going, too
I'm on my way to
Cuba there's where I'm going
Cuba there's where I'll stay
Cuba where wine is flowing
And where dark-eyed Stellas
Light their fellers' panatellas
where all is happy Cuba where all is gay
Why don't you plan a
Wonderful trip to Havana
Hop on a ship
And I'll see you in C.U.B.A.
Take a friend's advice
Drinking in a cellar isn't nice
Anybody who has got the price
Should be a Cuban
Have you been longing for the 'smile'
That you haven't had for quite a while?
If you have, then follow me and I'll show the way
Fighting the good fight. Please. Moore is so not cool.

Dave, you forgot to mention that he is also a stinken hairy slug and wears pink panties.
11 - Ray Ellis
I had no idea you were on such intimate terms with Michael Moore, sr.
12 - sr
Ray, are you envious of me?
13 - Ray Ellis
Hardly. As much as I find some of his films frequently amusing, and sometimes provocative, the very thought of his taste in undergarments frankly grosses me out.
14 - sr
Speaking of undergarments, did you know Rosie O Donald wears no undergarments. Now I know that sounds gross and it's not her fault. The promblem is they dont manufacture Beluga Whale size panties.

I agree, those "socialists" are far worse those chickenhawks.

Any different than yourself?

Not in that context, emmy. Look it up.

Yes ... you're dead-set right Clav. Glad to hear your wife's on the mend. How's the titfer?
21 - Clavos
Me bloody titfer's great, mate.
Wore it over to my mate's house for a traditional Memorial day BBQ today; he's a VN vet, too.
Now he's jealous! :>)
The missus IS better, but still in the hospital; five weeks yesterday. I'll remember you to her.
Check yer email, mate!
22 - STM
Clav. Big thumbs up old boy ... you've got the wearing of it 100 per cent. Thanks for the other piccies, too. I'll send email later.
As for Michael Moore: what I love about America is that holding the polar opposite view to roughly 50 per cent of your countrymen/women will only make half of them hate you ... despite the emotions stirred up, it's what makes the place great. While you are all going through your hand-wringing stage right now, don't forget the special premise upon which your country was founded - and how lucky you are to be able to hold contrary views (not quite as lucky as us, but only just, but then you can't have everything, can you? :)
23 - Dr Dreadful
One way you know Michael Moore is striking at least some nerves is that right-wingers are yelling Foul! even before his film has been released...
24 - Dr Dreadful
Michael Moore is a foul smelling fat ass pig.
So was Tom Jefferson by all accounts. Don't know where the U of S of A would be without him though.
25 - bliffle
I guess some people really dislike MM. But, is the movie any good? What's it about?
