Saddam's Underwear

Bush has a good point regarding the indignation over the photo of Saddam in his underwear.

"I don't think a photo inspires murderers. I think they are inspired by an ideology that is so barbaric and backwards that it is hard for many in the western world to comprehend how they think."

Saddam's going to sue? I'm speechless.

why everytime the bush admin flops there is some homosexual overtone?

naked iraqis tortured, saddam in underwear, bush milking male cows, jeff gannon, ken mehlman, karl rove.

the republican party is the party of gays, thats for sure.

You don't see the irony (to put it charitably) there? Something about photos versus words?

    Here.

The words were false, it is a different situation entirely.

Perhaps the most insulting thing is that Saddam got caught in "tighty whitey" briefs, a no-no among men with any fashion sense.

    ummm.....no..

one was a clear Violation of the Geneva Convention Articles of Conduct towards prisoners of War...

the other was a single line of a 10 line article in a news magazine that had not been properly verified..

i leave it to you, gentle Readers, to decide which one was more grievous in the grand Scheme of things...

i also leave it to you to decide which is getting beaten like a red headed step child by the "right" wing media machine, and which was granted no outrage whatsoever in ANY MSM outlets..

Newsweek was wrong and printed a Retraction...what have we heard from the Shrub and cronies?....not much except the Lawyer that wrote the Policy trying to sell us that the head of a sovereign government, when captured by military forces is not really a POW and has no "Rights" as far as he, or the Administration are concerned...

    are you scared yet?

    you should be...

Where's the indignation over the pictures of mothers cradling their children, killed by "Mr" Hussein?

"Calvin Klein is preparing an add campain aroudn that photo."

Better than their usual ad campaigns, which generally feature mostly-nude pre-teens in provacative poses...

I recall an incident last year, when another person many believe to be a terrorist went nuts ensuring that the world's media refrained from printing a paparazzo photo taken of him in his pajamas. That was Dubya Bush during his 2004 Ireland trip. And folks were perfectly happy to keep Bush's pic out of the press. Interesting that something worse (tighty-whiteys vs. PJs) happened to another alleged terrorist and yet the media have no problem showing those photos around the world. Sick bastards. Mr. Bush is the luckier of the murderous scum -- it's good (for him, anyway) to be king. Mr. Hussein has every right to sue, and I hope that he, while serving a much-deserved life sentence behind bars, ultimately wins. (And it would be nice if that other terrorist, the one some of you inexplicably call president, would end up behind bars for life too? Ah, a girl can dream... of justice and decency and goodness and peace and suitable punishments for powerful people who really ought to be in jail.)

Natalie, I hate to even comment here, but your recent comment shows such a total disconnect from reality that I have to wonder if you even read what you write.

Do you really see Saddam Hussein and President Bush as equally villainous? Do you serously actually beleive that making a well intentioned but controversial war with limited casualties and great concern for civilian welfare is the same as exterminating people based on their race, systematically raping women en masse, massacring entire villages, starving the entire population of a nation, and torturing thousands to death?

    Are you insane?

    >>I hope that he, while serving a much-deserved life sentence behind bars, ultimately wins.<<

The sentence for murder in Iraq is death, not life in prison.

    >>Ah, a girl can dream... of justice and decency and goodness and peace<<

You don't know what justice is and having no decency yourself wouldn't recognize it in others.

"I hate to even comment here"

Then why did you, Mr. Nalle? To inflict pain? I can see no other purpose. In any case, you are entitled to your opinion, which, interestingly, mirrors mine of you. And as for what I know about justice or decency or anything, you have no idea.

I usually avoid your comments and will go back to doing so again. Pax vobiscum and have a good life; I hope you are never photographed in your skivvies.

    >>Then why did you, Mr. Nalle? To inflict pain? I can see no other purpose.<<

I cannot inflict sufficient pain in words to someone who holds the views which you expressed earlier. I responded because I could not let your comment stand even if I knew I'd take flack for responding. Your views on this subject are inhuman and monstrous. You make yourself party to genocide, rape and murder and seem to think it makes you a righteous person, but in my eyes it just makes you sick and twisted.

    >> In any case, you are entitled to your opinion, which, interestingly, mirrors mine of you. And as for what I know about justice or decency or anything, you have no idea.<<

Based on what I've seen of your opinions you're in no position to pass judgement on anyone.

Oops, I was mistaken: Last year, the Shrub whined -- and world media did his bidding by hiding the pics -- when he was photographed while wearing an undershirt, not PJs. The point remains. It was wrong to photograph Georgie; it was wrong to photograph Hussein and broadcast the shots.

Natalie, I'm with you on this, although I wouldn't call the Shrub "murderous scum." He's too ignorant for that. Saddam is murderous scum because he knew exactly what he was doing when he killed and tortured people, and took his sons along to torture sessions when they were young to watch. THAT's murderous scum. The Shrub is a misguided pol; it's OK to hate him, but he thinks he's defending his country: he's the idealistic victim of his ideology, not a man driven to murder to stay in power.

    Temple Stark,

Regarding the authorship change, no, it wasn't posted under Eric Olson, it was just posted as Eric. As in, me. I write the blog Myopic Zeal and modified my Blog Critics settings so it showed the name of my blog rather than my personal name in the authorship line.

Hope that helps clear up the confusion.

    Eric.

Nalle, Natalie and millions of others have argued quite rationally that Bush & Co could be guitly of war crimes, and Nat et al who hold that opinion (yer truly included) can thus consider the Bush Junta to be "murderous scum" without being deemed "insane".

I mean, dude, a huge number of readers hereabouts consider yer ass to be insane, but we don't call you that in public.

    ...You fucking nut-bar.

BTW: The American government should just be happy that they DIDN'T publish that picture of Saddam sitting on the toilet with his underwear around his ankles while wiping his ass with a Koran.

    Whew!

    Luck is relative, eh?!

Snark, that you could read Natalie's post and think that she has any shred of human decency or contact with reality demonstrates that you're so completely blind to basic human morality that you're off in Pol Pot land with her.
