Return of the Naïve

The Clintons are a political tour de force no doubt. I don’t care how red Bill’s face gets — or how mad he seems (during a recent impromptu interview) or how vaguely he promotes his belief in Obama, the Democrat ticket needs Hillary Clinton.

She won 18 million votes even in the wake of blacks abandoning her. I abandoned her, but that does not mean she should not be on the ticket. I said I would get over it if she won and put Obama on the ticket and vice versa. So I am saying to the folks, the holdout folks, including my relatives, some of whom are paid staff on the Obama campaign — get over it!

Return of the naïve pundit, coming to a cable channel near you!

I am not suggesting that is the reason the pundits are not peddling Hillary Clinton or "thinking Hillary" for the ticket. But really, it is time to "think Hillary." I have been watching most of the major MSM political offerings with their pundits, journalists, observers, consultants, campaign advisers, conservatives, liberals, men and women — all (most) have observed that Hillary is not being considered by Barack — bunk! I don’t believe that for a minute. And because she seems to not be in contention, or on the short list (some have conceded that) then poof, she will not be the VP pick. I am not saying I got it right completely. Barack could pick someone else, but he does so at the peril of losing.

The same pundits spout that voters do not vote the VP choice, they vote the top of the ticket, period. Wouldn't that be nice if it were true? I did not vote for Al Gore. Why? Because he chose Lieberman! And guess what? I was right. That would have been a terrible ticket. In hindsight Gore would have been the right president but he chose the wrong VP.

And if Barack chooses the wrong VP then shame on him for being so bone-headed, to use his phrase. And to the voters and pundits I’ll use another phrase: stop holding onto your Bibles and bitterness over losing the nomination to Obama. One thing is not in contention: he has not broken the 50% ceiling in the national polls. Does he need to do that? Who in the hell are they polling, anyway? If they are polling mostly white, mostly older constituents then there may be cause for celebration. Why? Because the polls are not a snapshot of the race.

I know you were likely writing this seriously, but I can't help but catch the humor.

I can't help the wit, I was born, rather reborn with it.

Hillary would be a terrible choice because she seeks not the Vice-Presidency but a co-Presidency. Prominent supporter Madeliene Kunin already said Hillary should get significant responsibilities. Vice-Presidents have none, beyond presiding over the Senate. They may be given more, but it isn't something they can demand without undermining the President.

Vice-Presidents are not self-selected. These unprecedented high pressure tactics by the Clintons and her supporters to get her added to the ticket would make Obama look weak if he caved and would also raise the question of who is in charge. Although publicly supportive of Obama, the fact Hillary is still talking about having her name entered in nomination and Bill is giving lukewarm praise of Obama means they are not on "his team." We can't have two (three counting Bill) chief executives.

Picking Hillary would be a terrible idea and I'm sure Obama won't choose her because if he wanted to, he could have done so long ago.

Co-vice or Co-pres with Bill in there somehow.

I think the country would rather not live through that. As far as I'm concerned Obama should keep his distance from the Clintons.

Additionally, with current polls just in, perhaps the dems ought to start talking fossil fuels, along with the pie-in-the-sky future energy needs and technologies. There current "just-say-no" campaign against carbon based fuels (i.e. petroleum and coal) is unrealistic, unless you don't venture far from the cave to whack your dinner with a wooden club. Voters are looking at their checkbook and relizing that EVERYTHING is going up in price due to the petro footprint from manufacturing raw material to delivery cost, to the energy needed to run the infrastructure at the millions of cost centers.

My father used to wax sagely how "everything comes from the good earth"... I beleive that and if you think about it, it's really really close to a truism. But lately I'm beginning to think that everything we use in our modern and complex society comes from petroleum products.

What could Clinton possibly bring to the table? She needs to stay at work in the senate working pertainent issues. The DNP needs to pay attention to what is happening out here and address it quickly, or its over.

I read somewhere that the Clintons would only agree to Hillary as VP if Bill were to be put in charge of "intern orientation" at the White House.
