Little opposition remains between John F. Kerry and the Democrat nomination for President in 2004. And Kerry looks like a guy who can win in November.
Assuming he becomes our 44th President, who will be his Veep? John Edwards sems the likely choice, but I have a better one: Senator Bill Neslon.
With Nelson on the ticket, Kerry would likely win Florida, and therefore likely win the general election. Nelson is an American hero, a moderate, and from the South. Edwards, on the other hand, will not help Kerry significantly in the South (especially Florida), and will likely be eaten up by Cheney in the VP debates (he is not, as one might have said of former VP Al Gore, a "master debater").
So. Kerry-Nelson v. Bush-Cheney. KN narrowly defeats BC. Ramifications:
- JEB Bush may run in 2008.
- Hillary Clinton can't run in 2008.
- Higher taxes for everyone who doesn't dig ditches for a living.
- North Korea gets coddled, and likely exports their horrors to other nations.
- Iraq is left to its own defenses, and when something bad happens there it is blamed on the "poor planning" of the Bush Administration.
- Frenchmen dance in the streets.
- Did I mention higher taxes?

That's what comes of eating pickles and ice cream after midnight.

Pal, taxes are going up under Bush II. Way, way, way, way up. They'll start with consumption taxes-sales and gasoline taxes-since that's what most people-including and not including ditch diggers--pay. Then they'll move on to payroll taxes, starting with Social Security taxes. Taxes, taxes, taxes.

and then there's the huge property tax increases caused indirectly by states being starved of federal funding.

Really? After two failed presidencies, are Republicans going to go back to that poisoned well again? That really would be dumb.
Higher taxes for everyone who doesn't dig ditches for a living.
Well, it's about time something went right for ditch-diggers.
North Korea gets coddled, and likely exports their horrors to other nations.
As opposed to the big smack-down they're getting right now? I got news: they're already exporting their horrors; how do you think that regime is staying afloat? Maybe a president with international credibility could at least bring the Chinese on board with serious efforts at non-proliferation. The world doesn't seem to be eager to work with the lame-duck we've got now.
Iraq is left to its own defenses, and when something bad happens there it is blamed on the "poor planning" of the Bush Administration.
Again, that's already happening (we leave in June, right?), and the blame seems to be well placed. Is there any reason to think Kerry would put any less thought and effort into Iraq than we are now?
Did I mention higher taxes?
Yes, but you didn't say anything about the huge boost in consumer confidence that will occur when somebody offers at least the possibility of serious economic policy from the White House.
