Nothing to see here, citizen. Move along! Isn't Dancing With The Stars about to come on? Are you rooting for Bristol Palin?

Where is the outrage over this sort of thing? With a Republican administration, the skies would be falling. Now, not so much.

What gibbs? Is the Obama administration so benign that we don't mind?

well, dan, it would matter if they were legal wiretaps or not. like with a warrant. if not, this is just as bad. the article doesn't quite make it clear whether warrants would be part of a "wiretap order," but the same logic that bush used--warrants take too damn long--would seemingly be in use. and that's as troubling now as it was then. as would the "if you've done nothing wrong, you've got nothing to fear" logic. as would the "get the hell out of my life, guv'ment" logic.

still, the phone system is one thing. the internet is another. even if they WANTED to do this, actually doing it would be a different thing. but if they actually did do it, it wouldn't go over too well. also, you aren't seeing too much outrage because it's several months out still. people haven't heard about it yet and it hasn't been submitted to congress. and it's also not an executive order (a la el decider), so at least there will be some debate about it before it happens.

like it or not, once that ball got rolling, it's going to keep on rolling, and it was set down a slippery slope years ago. we'll just have to wait and see what happens with this legislation.

The reality is we're enslaved to a hybrid of big business and big government. The only choice we have is to shift the makeup of the beast a few percents this way or that. Anything else and you're labelled a fringe lunatic or an ignert tea partier.

OMG you people have short attention spans. Was it not the Bush admin. that illegally wiretapped people homes. Was it not the bush admin. that locked people up without due process. Was it not the Bush admin. that lied to the American people in favor of a pointless war. Was it not the kakistocracy of the past eight years, that betrayed out ideals for the sake of security. If anyone is an orwellian esque dictator it's W.
