Kurt M. Campbell, head of The Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs said, “We have never seen this trajectory before. We have weighed into each of these countries and asked them to make clear that such a test is provocative and this plan should be discontinued." Australian Foreign Affairs Minister, Bob Carr, stated that "The North Korean nuclear and long-range missile plans represent a real and credible threat to the security of the region and to Australia” and that the launch would be "in clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions."
Pyongyang indicates that the summit and the various statements about the proposed launch are a "childish farce;" any denunciation of North Korea, they continue, will be a “declaration of war."

If NK keeps going down this path, sooner or later they're going to go just a bit too far. The resulting war would be immensely tragic, and more than anything, an indictment of China's mishandling of her satellite nation.

Glen, re #1, I agree. However, it seems to be a question of when, not whether, the DPRK will continue down the path. That pitiful nation has no need for nuclear weapons or for the means to deliver them, beyond trying to keep Kim Jong-un in apparent power to benefit the regime sewed together by his grandfather and father.

I hope it's 'if' and not 'when'. I hope you're wrong, but you're probably not since we've seen this play out before so many times all across the world.
