No 44th President for us yet!

So how do you like the election results?

Obviously, many folks didn't care for them at all.

A friend of mine, a Bush voter, reported that she'd received the following e-mail from one of her Kerry-voting "friends":

you know, usually i try to not say anything, because, after all, everyone's entitled to their own opinion. but, thanks a lot, you uneducated, gun-toting, bible-thumping, homophobic, racist bastards for re-electing this idiot. don't come crying to me when your ass gets drafted, your jobs are lost, and your rights are taken away.

As a Bush voter, let me tackle these claims: Uneducated? I've got a Bachelor of Science, thank you very much. Gun-toting? I don't own a gun, and neither does my staunchly conservative dad; I believe in the right to own a gun, but I've no problem with safeguards, waiting periods, checklists, mandatory classes for responsible gun ownership, etc. Bible-thumping? I believe in a Higher Power, but I'm not exactly a Christian; I'm neither a creationist nor an evolutionist. Homophobic? Just because Bush is reactionary towards the gay lifestyle means I must be? Yeah, right. This bisexual cares to differ. Racist, pro-draft, jobless, proto-fascist? Honestly! You forgot to mention xenophobic and jingoist. Just trying to be helpful ...

I voted and encouraged a vote for Bush because he's the proven leader in this War on Terror we need. It may be a single issue, but it's by far the biggest. If there was anybody else who could plausbily touch Bush on security issues, I'd have seriously considered it. But there wasn't. Bush remained the most pragmatic choice.

What most Americans wanted was a leader during this War on Terror. Bush has proven himself as a leader, one who won't back down and who won't cut back our armed forces at a time when they've never been so vital. People haven't forgotten 9/11 and the resolve that Bush showed on that day. He's not perfect, but he deserves that second term.

'America is safe for the next four years, hallelujah!' - I just hope that these words don't come back to haunt you.

Good post Mark, it does seem to still be a little heated out there...kinda makes you wonder how we're supposed to heal this great divide...

    A Bachelor's degree doesn't mean squat, MEM.

The education that is needed is education on the issues.

Get that and you'll be surprised to learn that Bush's efforts on "terrorism" so far have had positive results for the terrorists, negative results for America.

Lemmings believe in "leadership," too - all the way over the edge of the cliff.

It's going to be a long four years. I wish we could have created a Hollywood-type alternate ending to see if the conservatives would be spewing this much hatred if their guy had lost.

Yet, after all the filthy lies, dirty tricks and libelous conspiracy theories spun about President Bush, the man who everyone apparently hated is going back to the White House for another four years.

Hmmmmm...eerily reminiscint of Clinton's second election, no?

    Good Post Capt'n,

If I may expand just a bit....

The great myth is that somehow things would be different under one man than the other. Try to get your mind around this....

Regardless of which man won the presidency, America would still be in Bagdad (even 8 years from now).

Both men would have gone to war against Saddam.

The economy would still be recovering.

Health insurance would continue to become a larger and larger problem.

The dems don't have any agenda that is different from the repubs.

It's all a bunch of horseshit to say that one party has a better plan than the other.

Now I think it's fine to vote for the candidate of your choice. We had an election and now it is over. We have a new president. He was elected in a fair and square manner. There was no 'stealing' of the election. Now is the time to pull together as a people and support your legislatures. Forget about the spins, and mistakes of the past (both parties have their fair share of them)and start a new belief that our representatives in Washington will act in our best interests. Support your representatives and work, thru the process for change. And for god's sake quityerbitchin!
