Nixon Forever

Nixon Forever?

Today the San Francisco Chronicle, through its SFGate website, breaks a major new story:

In 1996, Nixon said Reagan's economic policies were unduly harsh and cautioned against giving him too much credit for winning the Cold War. "Communism would have collapsed anyway," he told Monica Crowley, a Nixon aide in his last years, according to her book, "Nixon Off the Record."
Indeed, anything that Richard Nixon said in 1996 qualifies as major news. That's because if the announcements and funeral were reliable indicators, President Nixon died in 1994.

SFGate was so busy gloating about Nixon's negative assessment of Reagan in 1972 (did he have anything positive to say about anyone in 1972?) and implying that Iran-Contra was as bad as Watergate that they missed the significance of Nixon checking in from the hereafter to analyze Reagan's economic and foreign policies.

FYI: Smug Bastard is only a pale pretender to Smug Prick.

Thank you for the opportunity to mention our new color scheme a la Phillippe IS FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON. IT'S GREEN AND RED, GET IT? If not, there's a formerly functional woman mumbling in her Post Toasties after missing the holiday connection.

May I be a smug prick and say "I can't read anything over the unbelievably bright green toothpaste all over my screen"? I'm going to get hated, I just know it, but could this color scheme be toned down some? Man, it makes reading mighty tiresome. A day or two of this might be okay, but two+ weeks . . . I don't think I can handle it!

You call this a "bright" green? This seems like a light pastel color to me- just about right. I dig it.

I guess it could depend on your monitor, but what I really mean by "bright" is active. It's a strong color to use as a background, which competes with the black text. It can lead to tired eyes. Or maybe I just hang out here too much and should just be working.

NOTE: they have rewritten the story, apparently in an effort to perpetuate the illusion that Nixon is not in fact immortal.
