'Ma Barker' Bush; Let Them Eat Cake - Comments Page 2

When your approval ratings are making record lows, and entertainers are going on nation television saying you hate black people, who do you call? Your dear old mother, of course. The mother of the Bush crime family, Barbara Bush, paid a visit to the Houston Astrodome on Monday and showed just how much they really do care about black people. Now I'm not much for criticizing non-elected officials, especially their mothers, but this bitch has it coming.…

just a couple of observations on the comments on this page. first what do the kennedys have to do with any of this. a bush is president and another bush made an series incredible insensitive and offensive comments, nothing to do with the kennedys. typical conservative argument, attack a staw man rather than defend your apparent position.

second is kin is right. u reep what u sow, u morons voted bush in (the second time at least) and u deserve what u get. the only pity is that in this case it was the poor and black who suffered (groups which generally have very low elecion participation rates cause they know there is little point voting at all in ur country). my only real regret is that this didnt happen in some affluent conservative white state...oh what am i saying.....things (eg levees, rescue efforts) would never have allowed that to happen now would it.

anyway i feel desperately for the people who have coped it but a pox on ur house america

What I find most ironic about Babs Bush is this:

The nasty Right seems to hate Hillary Clinton -- partly (it seems) because she's one of those strong, 'liberated', take-charge, asexual alpha-female patriarchs who left the kitchen for the battlefield... and yet Barbara, the Bush Matriarch, is one of the most masculine, testosterone-soaked domineering women in American history. I mean, you can't look at her mannerisms and NOT imagine her kickin' both Georges' asses all over the mansion at Kennebunkport.

I don't know who is plagiarizing who but:
Barbara Bush: It's Good Enough for the Poor
    John Nichols
Tue Sep 6, 1:08 PM ET

The Nation -- Finally, we have discovered the roots of George W. Bush's "compassionate conservatism."

On the heels of the president's "What, me worry?" response to the death, destruction and dislocation that followed upon Hurricane Katrina comes the news of his mother's Labor Day visit with hurricane evacuees at the Astrodome in Houston.

Commenting on the facilities that have been set up for the evacuees -- cots crammed side-by-side in a huge stadium where the lights never go out and the sound of sobbing children never completely ceases -- former First Lady Barbara Bush concluded that the poor people of New Orleans had lucked out.

"Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this, this is working very well for them," Mrs. Bush told American Public Media's "Marketplace" program, before returning to her multi-million dollar Houston home.

On the tape of the interview, Mrs. Bush chuckles audibly as she observes just how great things are going for families that are separated from loved ones, people who have been forced to abandon their homes and the only community where they have ever lived, and parents who are explaining to children that their pets, their toys and in some cases their friends may be lost forever. Perhaps the former first lady was amusing herself with the notion that evacuees without bread could eat cake.

At the very least, she was expressing a measure of empathy commensurate with that evidenced by her son during his fly-ins for disaster-zone photo opportunities.

On Friday, when even Republican lawmakers were giving the federal government an "F" for its response to the crisis, President Bush heaped praise on embattled Federal Emergency Management Agency chief Michael Brown. As thousands of victims of the hurricane continued to plead for food, water, shelter, medical care and a way out of the nightmare to which federal neglect had consigned them, Brown cheerily announced that "people are getting the help they need."

Barbara Bush's son put his arm around the addled FEMA functionary and declared, "Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job."

    Like mother, like son.

Even when a hurricane hits, the apple does not fall far from the tree.

I live in the UK, and work in a trading room where access to news is instantaneous and not confined to a single source. The most striking thing about trying to defend a callous remark, taken out of context or not, is that there are obviously people (ie. Dave) who continue to take their view of the world from Fox News, their music from ClearChannel, their goods from Walmart, their food from McDonald's, their drinks from Coke, their thinking from Microsoft, their religion from the Church of Intolerance, their law from Litigation for Lawyers, Inc, their economics from Borrow from China Because We Can, their environmental policy from Screw It I want my SUV, and their Foreign Policy from Screw It They Hate Us Anyway.....and have no clue how the rest of the world lives or thinks, or indeed how a large number of their own countrymen live. I watched a news show here last night where the Reporter (Jon Snow, the British equivalent of Dan Rather) actually rescued someone from his boat in New Orleans NINE DAYS AFTER KATRINA. And Dunkirk only took four days. Forget spin. In today's globalized village, you can't hide a picture. Not by clapping inept officials on the back. Not by forming a commission to investigate yourself. Not by turning into an attack dog to deflect the truth.

By the way, I am American.

Hey Dave! I got this quote from an article I believe you wrote on elitistpig.com apropos of Iraq Idol, a knockoff of American Idol.

I just wanted to know whether or not this comment was tongue in cheek. If so, bravo! If not, then we need go no further to confirm you as a myopic and ill informed blowhard.

FYI, American Idol is a show that was a knock off of Pop Idol, a British show developed by a Brit Simon Fuller, the creative genius(???) behind the Spice Girls (and a man thus responsible for two of the great abominations of modern life). Get your facts right.

    QUOTE
When a nation embraces the spirit of American Idol can freedom and prosperity be far behind?

I think Barbara Bush owes an apology for her insensitive and callous remarks. She may have meant it in a way that was misunderstood. Nevertheless, she said it and she should apologize and explain herself......if there is even a spin that could be applied!

After apologizing she should be forced to watch Oprah's show from yesterday.....

I just came across this interview with Nixon this morning, who is from the same era and class as Barbra Bush; I was shocked to read his disgusting comments about minorities, but I think it clearly reaveals the Bush family's attitude towards poor black Americans.

    http://www.infowars.com/articles/occult/bg_nixon_tape_homosexuals_at_grove.htm

The Bushes not only feel that they are economically superior to the "underprivledged", but that they are *morally* superior to them as well.

I don't know why anyone's surprised. The stated Republican agenda is to dismantle the federal government. This goes back years, but was completely outlined in the Contract With America. There is sheer contempt for all things federal including disaster aid.
Further, the Bushes and the leaders of the Republican party simply don't have experience with people living on fixed incomes. They literally don't understand why this was more of a disaster because it was late in the month (just wait until they start finding the hundreds of white retirees throughout the gulf coast who died because they couldn't afford a tank of gas to get out of town).....It is the same contempt that makes them want to dismantle social security.
This is why the head of FEMA is a college roomate of a guy who helped to run Bush's campaign, a guy who got fired from his last job judging horse shows.....because they thought of the position as a joke, even after all the 9/11 posturing.
As Bill O'Rielly lamented "They didn't leave, and now we have to help them. You can't rely on the federal government." The Republican agenda is to drive this point home, even as we send thousands of troops to their deaths overseas.
The question for the future is whether or not we, as Americans, wish to continue embracing this agenda, even as we have seen it's results. The callousness of suggesting that people are better off now is just par for the course.

Bush's stupidity doesn't surprise me, it seems to run rampant in that family. What did surprise me is that she was careless enough to SAY it.

I guess when Dubya said "No wonder I think they're evil." on international television, Barbara caught the show and cringed, thinking, "How do I beat THAT?"

Looks like she one-upped him. Brava, Mama Dickweed.

  • 45 - John

    Sep 07, 2005 at 6:03 pm

Why the surprise? For a family that thought nothing of bombing a country to the ground and killing thousands of innocent women and children in the name of free enterprise, New Orleans is virtually insignificant by comparison. Maybe they could employ the Israelis to build a high concrete wall around Texas to keep the blacks out as well!

Back in '00 and '04 when the Rational thinkers were warning Americans not to vote for Evil Bush, they were called Liberals. Americans elected the ex-governor with the most convict executions of any other state in the union. Does that spell compassion? God bless the sufferers in LA and AB, but to those who re-elected Bush, I hope you're eating crow. Maybe next time, perhaps '08, you'll bloody well wake up and hear what the rational ones and the rest of the world are saying!

You all make me sick. I just happened onto this website and found all the garbage you all are spewing. I'm not a Bush fan, but I also don't believe that Mrs. Bush meant any disrespect to the people in the Astrodome. How many of you have actually seen the living conditions of the poor people of New Orleans? I was just there a month ago and saw the filth and squallor some of them called home. I'd say she was right in saying what the people of Texas are providing is much better than what they had before. If you'd ask those people, I'd bet they'd agree. Now, fire away!

I agree, help the Katrina victims in any way you can. As for B. Bush, she can help by appologizing for her lame arse comment she made today. Even if what she said and how she said it came out wrong (although I'm not convinced), she seriously needs to apologize. If she does hopefully she'll think first before opening her mouth.

I just don't understand how someone could be so stupid to make comments like B. Bush's, and with that mannerism even! Disgusting!!

Now I'm a regular NYer who generally keeps his opinions to himself. The way this president handled this ordeal is horrid. I'm not a religious person, and for the most part most politicians are full of spit. However, I do believe in Karma. This family has a multitude of bad luck coming to them. It's funny when you get a glimpse of peoples true subconcious thoughts. That's how she feels and that's fine. I personally never though much of her anyway. There are STILL dead bodies floating around in New Orleans. In light of this, Barbara Bush's comments are indefensible in any context. I'm sure there are flood victims who are appropriately grateful for the generosity of people willing to help them, but her comments are revolting and very far from the spirit of saying that.

I'm volunteering and donating clothing and blood if possible. I feel very strongly that Barbara Bush not only needs to apologize but make amends by visibly working to help victims.

I'm utterly offended by what she said. I'm a native Texan, as was my mother and her mother before her. This is not what we stand for, and I feel grossly misrepresented by the entire family.
