Sun Tzu:If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat."
Yesterday, George W. Bush said that we could not pull out of Iraq because it "would send a terrible signal to the enemy." This begs the question — 'who is the enemy?'…

We live in interesting times Dave. One can only live in hope. The whole place is just in turmoil, at least in terms of which faction supports whom and does what. Right now, unless the US stays the course - and that is going to take some balls - and goes at it properly, the whole place is just going to descend into a giant shitfight, and the Iranians are meddling just as much at the moment as the sunni religious lunatics.
I reckon tht plan mooted a couple of years back about restoring the place to the old Ottoman provinces of Mosul, Baghdad and Basra has some merit.
Gardens with lots of different plants make for the prettiest, but in Iraq's case the weeds have taken over and are strangling the life out of everything good that wants to grow.
One day, I'd like to go back - to a country that hasn't destroyed itself and has been able to fulfil the wonderful potential of the Iraqi people.

"It's not a civil war if it's Iraqi Sunnis fighting Iranian Shia. That's called repelling an invasion."

Anything like our invasion...?

"Ah, the defeatism. Does it taste sweet? Hey, did you see there's a new Disney film coming about Chicken Little? Bet that will be some fun stuff to watch."
(Dave Nalle boldly writes, 10,000 miles from the action)

Dave has a point in regard to this emmy ... I know from the contact I still have with Iraqis (more limited now, but still aware of what the mood is) that the vast majority of Iraqis don't want the US to go and to leave them in the hands of who knows what - again.
They want them to stay. But they'd also like them to win.
I guess the US has to make up it's mind about all the above, but when Bushco (who I don't like, as you know) say that they are trying to bring freedom to Iraq, they are not bullshitting entirely.
Yes, we kown they're hardly being simply altruistic, and we know Iraq has huge oil reserves, but beyond that, what they removed in 2003 was truly a cancer.
Iraqis feel the same way too.

At least the kurds seem to have worked out a deal with the turks so if we do pull out they will probably be ok. [Personal attack deleted by Comments Editor]

Geez, guys. Cease and desist all this muddled thinking.
I already explained who the enemy is and who our allies are in #20.
I expect to be appointed to McCains Foreign Policy staff soon.

americans say "we are fighting for freedom!" It always makes me think: whose freedom are u fighting for? Because what Iraqis are getting right now is not freedom for sure! 4 million of them lost their housing, and are being suppressed... ? where is the promised freedom? and who are we fighting against for THE FREEDOM?

I think the war is stupid and maybe if the president did declare war so many of our people would be alive to this day. Why couldn't of he just let it go?

Omg nix, are you so moronic and disloyal to your country that when 2973 of our fellow Americans are killed in an unprecidented attack by foreign terrorists that we should just "let it go"? No, we should do no such thing, our current course may be erred but at least we are doing SOMETHING. If we all followed you, we would be sitting here most likely having multiple following attacks previous to 9-11 and thousands more could lie dead. But instead, we are over there, fighting for our fallen. So please, if you insist on saying something, please make it as to where it is not something as stupid as that.
