Kanye West Was Right: Bush Official Opens Mouth, Inserts Foot - Comments Page 4

Despite Kanye West ripping George Bush and many Republicans claiming they were closing their wallets, he still managed to raise 30 million dollars for Katrina victims.

Alphaliberal.comKanye West ripped into George Bush recently at a charity fundraiser for hurricane Katrina on NBC --essentially calling him a racist. Despite many Republicans claiming they were closing their wallets after the remark, he still managed to raise 30 million dollars for Katrina victims.…

    Two things:

First, Dave have you *any* proof that Bush's economic policies have aided anyone but the rich? Yes, we're all familiar with the trickle-down theory (which W's father dismissed as "voodoo economics"); not many are aware that Reagan ended up *raising taxes* Do you really think that repealing the estate tax would somehow aid people whose "estates," such as they were, have been washed away by the flood? It's a cynical gift to the rich; and so obviously nothing but that... note that Republicans have been embarrassed to talk about it much in the past few days (even though it was at the very top of their agenda prior to the hurricane).

Second, I just re-read my last post, and realized that I was addressing Kurtis and Andrea in the third person, and "steve" in the first person, which is the opposite of how things should be. Kurtis, Andrea: I apologize. And Kurtis, frankly I think it's astonishingly honorable that you would fight for this country, even though it's lousy with "steves."

Oh, and Dave? If tax cuts do what you say -- and we've seen the most radical tax cuts in modern history -- then how do you account for this:

"A report by the U.S. Census Bureau released the same week Katrina hit the nation's southeast announced that the national poverty rate rose for the fourth straight year despite continuing growth in production and political rhetoric that the nation's economy is on the upswing."

Now, agreed, this comes from a biased source. About as biased as they come. The type of news outfit that has definite opinions regarding poverty and political rhetoric:

    Fox News.

Fuck the poor if they can't find Jesus. And fuck the federal government for taking my money to help lazy poor people. Why waste resources on them? That goes for old people too. And the disabled, people with HIV, mentally retarded people (all dumb-o-crats, ha ha), and gay people. They are immoral wastes time. God put them on this world for a reason, let them find Him or perish. And evolution is a MYTH! You people talk about science and "evidence". Dumbasses! You don't need facts when you've got faith. Wipe out the people who are too weak or immoral to fend for themselves, you instantly have a better society. AND nuke the middle East. And China. Fuck it, nuke 'em all. And you know whose fault this whole disaster was? the stupid morons who are too lazy and stupid to evacuate. If they had just taken their lazy asses to the bus depot, they would have survived. Katrina was God's will, and his sphinctor is bigger than all of our's put together, so be afraid.

Now, before you all get your panties in a bunch, all of the above is a (fairly obvious) troll. No, I am not a fundie biggot asshole. I am simply taking the Republican logic to the extreme: if people cannot help themselves, FUCK THEM! Let the market take care of everything. Privatize schools, healthcare, prisons, ALL OF IT. Make money.

Silly queefs, don't you see what looting the public sphere does (starving federal programs aimed at providing the means of survival to those in need & during crises)? It creates an environment where people feel they don't belong, a society on the brink of destruction. All it takes is a lapse in law enforcement, and you have absolute terror, as people turn on one another. You know why? It is something you are very familiar with- short term gain, the Mecca of capitalism. If you can get ahead, consequences be damned, do it. Tax cuts for the rich!!! Dykes need to be replaced? Who will be affected if they fail? poor people? FUCK 'EM! I'm busy countin' my Ben Franklins. Make more money, everything else will take care of itself. What's the phrase? "A kinder, gentler fascism?" Indeed.

So here's my question for you LOOTERS of the public integrity, pillagers of the social fabric that holds us all together as a society:
When you are done maximizing your profit, externalizing all costs onto society (healthcare, minimum standards, etc) in pursuit of the same, focusing on short term profits and using coercion to back it all up (domestically as well as around the world), will you have created a world your grandchildren will want to live in?

ps regarding comment#44 - the democrats are a shade less slimy than republicans. but arguing about which is better or worse pretty much amounts to whether you'd prefer to eat shit, or eat shit with taco sauce. The two party system is as bankrupt as any institution on the face of this planet. Wake me in time for the Revolution.

From what I've heard and seen so far, it looks to me that it was poor planning and very unacceptable response time from the people who are being paid to be well prepared and respond to these types of disasters......whether or not Bush is a racist well who give's a toss. He's a self proclaimed idiot so why even bother to accuse or defend him.

Those of you who say they will not donate or help because of what K said well pat yourselves on the head because you've proven how small your minds are...for crying out loud your fellow Americans need your help..White or Black!! Who cares about what he said...people are dying, without homes, without food and you are arguing about what??????

America really needs to spend some time sorting out it's own backyard. Probably wouldnt have been this bad if the American people voted in the right President instead of a war mongrel!

I find it strange...US spent God knows amounts of money to send troops to Iraq etc to fight an unwanted war...now ask yourselves is Bush willing to put the same amount of money towards rebuilding and helping those affected by the disaster?

p.s Please tell your government to leave NZ alone...we are a nuclear free country and Hell will freeze before we allow nuclear armed or powered ships into our ports.

okay ive took random things people said. read this.

Ms. Bush, after viewing these people’s tragedy, was quoted saying:

Almost everyone I've talked to says we're going to move to Houston. What I'm hearing which is sort of scary is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this"this (she chuckles slightly) is working very well for them." [emphasis added]

If she is serious she must have a very low opinion of poor minorities in America to believe losing your home, the lives of your friends and relatives, your job, your peace, and your security was in some way "working out well."

    Thats just HORRIBLY WRONG!

Here is an example of why republicans get labeled "racist" by blacks, justitied or not.

look at the quotes from the same encampment where bill clinton and barbara bush went:

    Clinton

Clinton toured the shelter with his wife, Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York, and Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois.
Obama, picked up a little girl who brought him a small heart she had made in a makeshift daycare center at the shelter.
"What's your name, sweetie? You look so pretty," Obama said to the girl. "You made this heart and you decided to give it to Bill Clinton, didn't you?"
The little girl, named Kearra, shook her head affirmatively.
"Well, I give you my heart," Clinton said, giving the tiny toddler a hug. "You're beautiful. Thank you for the heart."

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Barbara Bush

"What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality," she said during a radio interview with the American Public Media program "Marketplace." "And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them."

    in other words, translated

clinton to black person - "i love you for who you are and what you can do"

bush to black person - "you are a lowlife, a refugee camp is a step up for you"

See why republicans have a race problem?

i think that Kanye was right abbout what he said. Nobody can blame it on the governor because it was the governments fault because they were supposed to evacuated people themselves. If you people will read the newspapers and listen to the news carefully you will see. I still don't understand how all of those news crew people got in but nobody could get in to give the people food and water. Why didn't Bush bring them food when he "TOURED" New Orleans? Why didn't he visit the black communities? was he afraid of what may happen? You people have to pay attention to the little things like that. Just like the other people were saying it don't matter what Kanye said, you can still donate money. Ya'll were not going to donate maoney to begin with. For those of you who think that it is not a racist thing it is a racist thing. BUSH DONT CARE ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE!!! He do little things that contribute to the black community for you blinded republicans to think that he cares. Open your eyes people. God help us all because this administration isn't going to..
we have troops overseas (and not locating Osama) we need to have more troops looking for and caring about what the fuck is going on in our own country.

One has to wonder when Laura Bush called Kanye West’s statements "disgusting", what she was referring to. Was she calling Kanye West a "disgusting" human being? Was she calling all poor minorities "disgusting"? Was Laura Bush finding "digusting" the notion that a minority, once a college dropout, who has now achieved success, should express a deeply held opinion in public?

All your armies, All your fighters,
All your tanks and all your soldiers.
Against a boy holding a stone,
    Standing there all alone.
In his eyes I see the sun,
In his smile I see the moon.
And I wonder I only wonder.
Who is weak and who is strong,
who is right and who is wrong.
And I wish I only wish.
That the truth has a tongue.

    go there

and listen to that lady talk.

she was saying stuff like "then things started getting really bad by the second day the people that were there that we were feeding and everything. we had no more food no more water we had nothing we were watching helicopters they were helping other people out but they would hover us and tell us hi they wouldnt drop us any food and water. nothing,. alligators were eating people they had all kinds of stuff in the water they had dead babies floating dead people floating. we had to walk around 100s of thousands of dead people. we could understand that the police couldnt help us but we couldnt understand why the national guard couldnt help us........"

I find it strange...US spent God knows amounts of money to send troops to Iraq etc to fight an unwanted war...now ask yourselves is Bush willing to put the same amount of money towards rebuilding and helping those affected by the disaster?

Now if Mr. West's comments didn't have a shroud of truth in it....why wasn't the levee fixed years ago to prevent this and save the people of New Orleans? And why did it take over three days to get help from the President? Oh wait....because he was on his 31-day vacation in Crawford, Texas. You can take Kanye West's comment however you want, but it doesn't take away from the fact that all of this could have been prevented and a lot of money and people could be saved. And if people didn't want to give money after Kanye West's comments, then they didn't really have the heart to give at all.
If they TRULY wanted to give and help the survivors of Hurricana Katrina, Kanye's speech would not have deterred them.

This is yet another failure of George W. Bush. He has, in his presidency, ultimately failed in his role as protector of the American citizenry. I has neither the intelligence or humanity to fulfill his role as President of the United States. He needs to be impeached before he can do more harm. We need new leadership. Bush has screwed this county up beyond belief. Katrina is another glaring example...

What I find puzzling is that conservatives despise & deplore The Poor, yet refuse to allow them the means to limit their numbers via viable, inexpensive birth control. How psychotic is that? If they want to reduce their numbers, white, black, or otherwise, one would think the Right would be the ones most aggressively pushing birth control in any form. Instead, they set up a formula for guaranteed failure. Not only sick thinking, but hypocritical as well.

Steve, as a white guy whose little brother hasn't stopped talking about Kanye's album for the last few months, this statement confirms for me that he is most definitely an artist worth watching, listening to, and supporting.

He speaks the truth, and if you can't help but associate yourself with George Bush and thus turn it into a simple white/black issue...well, then you don't like black people either.

This is for comment 4 raised by Steve:
One of the most telling characteristics of a truly intelligent (or at least empathetic) person is the ability to recognize intelligence in others. I have to say that if you possess this at all you'd be able to recognize Kanye as an intelligent individual. Aside from the fact that his father was at one time a highly active Black Panther and his mother was head of an english department at a major university, his demeanor and the quality of his productions speak for themselves. Now I am the last person to mistake a celebrities generosity or concern as genuine, but anyone who's ever felt for anything strong enough, as I have can, tell that looking at Kanye's outburst while standing next to Mike Meyers was genuine and heartfelt. You can fake that tone of voice or body language or facial convulsions. Speaking outside of a phorensic stand-point; the truth just sounds like the truth and whether or not what he said had any worth (and I beleive it does) you cannot doubt his motives as being anything beyond real.

    Regarding Comment 6 by Dave.
That's an excellent point Dave, and my personal experience during Hurricane Andrew in 1991 can attest to it. By the time I could return to what was left of my house a little more than a day after the area had been determined visitable the Army had already setup posts and relief centers where people could eat, get clothes and use free phones to call loved ones.
Not only that but patrols were setup in my neighborhood and my father had to present his driver's license so that they could confirm he lived on the block before letting him in his house. Oh and as for blacks being natural-born looters: My grandfather shot two middle aged white men in there legs that were trying to steal from his neighbors house. Take that for what it;s worth.

The heart of the matter is lost on anyone that says Kanye lost 20 million in support. If those people had true intentions of donating money for the sole purpose of helping those in need, then they wouldn't have let their generosity hinge on one man's oppinion.

It's very painful to read how everything is turned into a racial issue. Kanye was not born into wealth. His mother was not a doctor...She was and still is an English teacher. He could not get his "freshman" album recorded and released. So, he went into debt to do so. Why? because he is a determined young man.
Why is it acceptable for our vice-president to use profanity in a professional situation? Yet, Kanye can't speak his mind? Dixie Chics all over again? This is not a dictatorship. That's what makes America great. This young man made a heartfelt plea. His stuttering was caused by a truly emotional response. By the By...How can anyone come up with a $20 million dollar approximation of loss when they were expecting around 20 mil in total? Who's doing the addition here? To even suggest that people are more concerned with their presiden t's feeling; than their countrymen's welfare is an insult. 49% of Americans agree with Kanye according to the latest polls. Only 41% think Bush's handling was appropriate. Or.. Perhaps Kanye skewed the polls too. And to the person who was using Ebonics; it's obvious to the more intelligent among us that you are portraying yourself as something that you're not. Now let's live in peace and harmony..until next time.

Your boy Kayne West makes his remarks about the president, of course showing how uneducated he really is. Bush was not my choice for president, infact I don’t even feel he should have been on the ballot. That being said, Kayne West is really one ignorant individual, who shows just how much of a college dropout he really is. Typical, non-educated comments, absolutely pathetic.
Lets just start with the obvious. I want to just say that if I sound like I know it all, well, if you put me next to an invlid such as Kanye West, I will sound quite brilliant. Nevertheless, the disaster, Katrina. Hurricane warnings come, some worse than others, but people come out of it ok. There are many warnings throughout the year, every year, and people seem to make it.
Katrina was a massive disaster and I really don’t think anyone was prepared for what Katrina did to poor Louisiana and its people. The destruction was horrendous, far worse than any of the myriad of hurricane warnings we have seen anywhere! Who would have though this would have leveled an entire city?
The evacuations. Well, I will take a wild guess and assume that you (hot 97 listeners and staff) feel Bush is the one who calls for evacuation. Um, no! Evacuation decisions are made on a local level, i.e. you wonderful governor of New Orleans, that’s his job. This mayor left hundreds of city vehicles just sit and go to waste when they could have been used like they were supposed to be. You do realize he does have responsibility, correct? Where is his blame? Oh wait, he’s black, can’t blame him.
I do understand it’s hard to just pick up and leave, but the people of NO, must defend them selves and do what is best for their safety. I know there were places set up for events such as this and so they should have taken advantage of it.
The Idiot Bush is really only to blame for not being prepared for such a massive disaster that occurred. Yes he was absolutely wrong for not having supplies ready to go and should be to blame for the poor response.
What kind of idiot responses are made, “Bush doesn’t like black people!” Um, are you serious? That is an uneducated response if I ever heard it. It is typical! I mean if we still hear issues about slavery brought up 100 years later, and the ones making these comments were never even slaves!!! Nor are they making the comments to people whom never even owned slaves!!! Am I the only one? Why don’t I get it? Oh, I go to school! That must be it.
If you thought about it for a second and thought about what we stand for as a county, equal rights. You think Bush and his administration would sit and let blacks suffer as the world watches? Is that the name this administration wants for themselves, as raciest? Well, the answer is no idiot.
I do not want you to think that I feel I am above blacks. I think black people are a great part of our society and I wouldn’t want it any other way. Some of the sharpest and smartest people I know are back. Comments about the same thing just get old and tiring. These comments are without thought and directed at the wrong people. Honestly, Kanye West is dividing blacks from whites and if that’s the way he wants it, so be it. I will choose sides if I have to.
Lets not even get into Kanye’s comments about crack and the Black Panthers. HAHA, so sad, but not surprised by the comment. Geez, I wonder what Kanye would be doing if he were not behind a mic? Garbage man, if he were lucky.
Another stupid comment, another step back in bringing us together. I can’t wait to finish school, thanks Kanye.

And for those that dont know, remember, or have forgotten what courage means here it is again..."Courage is not the lack of fear. What I Am seeing here is that you simply CHOOSE not to understand when it comes to us just as you CHOOSE to be unable to spell our simpler names. I Am aware that this is just another way of further trying and make us feel alienated in our own home (ie. america). (1) Ni**ers are poor, unemployed and lazy. Its a way of life for them to sit on their ass all day. That is why they were caught in the flood. Don’t blame Bush -- its their fault for not having the means or the will to get away in time.

Balletshooz, I don't get the point of this bit here, are they not poor unemployed bums, what's untrue about this statement? oh and I like the way translate it into redneck speak for us, that's jus' super!

    (2) This is a natural disaster that is exacerbated by the problems of the underclass. The chief cause of poverty today among blacks is no longer racism. It is the breakdown of the traditional family.

    (2) Ni**ers do not take care of their kids. That is why they remain poor. De Jure discrimination in society plays no part in their plight, so we can pretend it does not exist. We can just scapegoat black men for abandoning their families, and pretend our policies play no role in their suffering at all.

I didn't know shitty policies were race specific, is there some fine print at the bottom of the these documents that says "this is a shitty policy, and therefore it only applies to black people" ?

Also, make up your mind who's tryin' to keep tha black man down, is it society or the government? Why are people not simply responsible for their own racism? It seems like people can just say "the government knows I'm racist, so it's their fault for not trying to stop me"
I just think your philosophy is mentally crippling to anyone who buys into it, your "de jure discrimination" convinces black folks that they are sad poor fucks who're incapable of escaping their victim mentallity.

to proud honey What that says about your founding fathers is 'shit happens' and yeah, i'm a pissed of white dude, i'm so god damn pissed off that a black man stepped out of line, not like in the old days when them nigrs knew their place. Funny thing is, I think white folks are more eager than anyone to just get over the whole thing, the thing being racial stuff, but you's keep calling us out on it, you're so hard up to have us all be cracker racists we almost feel obligated to satiate your desire for an oppressor that you can blame all of your problems on.

I just admire the fact that someone finally had the nerve to say something about bush. Leave it to Kanye to burst in front of thousands of viewers on his own honest opinion.
Bush is the most dim-witted man alive. The only reason he had for sending troops over to the Middle East was to finish his daddy's battle.
I support and agree with Kanyes little outburst, bush's response to everything in the country was and still is, racist.
Notice that last years hurricane in Florida got a massive response to relief efforts compared to New Orleans. Wouldn’t have anything to do with Jud or Jeb or whatever the fuck his brothers name is, being the Governor would it?
Hmm, ponder on that will you please?

kanye has a right to say what he wants whether we agree or not it is his right. white people say what they want all the time. they put blacks down all the time. lets look at white folk fact more white men kill, rape, and molest kids more than any other group of people in america. when meger evans was killed by that white guy, the man went around and told every on he did it and even gave the gun to the judge.not one white person got upset about it. when oj simpson got off they were so angery all because he got off from supposely killing a white woman.when a little boy got killed in alabama for whistling at a white girl they did not get upset.but when five white boys raped and beat a black girl not one white person said they were wrong they yelled their innocent, when in fact all five said they did it and she deserved it because she looked at them. lets get real we still have a problem with racism and the only people that can change it is white people because they started it.if those replubicans had wanted or had any intentions on giving they would have those were human beings the words of on man had nothing to do with it.i'm sure their children say things they don't like but that does not stop them from buying them cars and giving them money to buy beer when their under age.every thing we do has nothing to do with race culture or ethnic back ground.it has to do with we are all human and there are kids and old people involved and all cultures of people were hurt by this hurrican. so lets be real and look at the whole story white people are no different they just hide their stories. they control the media so you don't hear a lot about them. the welfare system has more whites on its roles than blacks check the records. so lets get real and stop this back and forth garbage black do what we have always done take care of our own and every body else, don't for get white folk even during slave times ate our food and we took care of their kids. White folk stop being phoney be real stop being racist and stop planting unwanted seeds in your children about blacks and put god in your life and help people because your heart says it is the right thing to do.

To the anonymous person who posted message #25 (just learned of it today):

"let me get this straight ... you must have been in the same english class as kanye west, yo ... stop slinging crack, get your G.E.D"

Spoken like a corny white boy. You must be. "YO?" Nobody says that s--t anymore.

How about you grow a set of b-ls and put your name on your messages? Stop hiding behind internet anonymity. Maybe we can continue this "discussion" face to face. How about it?

Well we have to think about the facts here,

    1) WE are in debt close to almost 40 trillion dollars we cant credit that almost all to Bush.

2)If we were not in debt that much we wouldnt have to do all these hurricane and tsunami reliefs. that means kanye might have never had the chance to say that in the first place.

    3) Us whites (including me) out heritage has been hurting the african-americans rights, society, religon, freedom of speech, freedom of press and much much more. The sad thing is we still do it today. Even though the KKK is banished from know on. that doesnt mean that we dont have racists in our country. Now we are just to go around pretending like that never happened? cmon, get a grip there will always be tension between blacks and whites. I strongly beleive in wat kanye west said.

4)No one really knows if its true or not that George does or does not like blacks, except for what he thinks. He is our presisdent, he should tell us what he thinks, he should not be racist, HE SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN INTO NEW ORLEANS FASTER, QUICKER, AND MROE EFFICIENTLY, AND MOST OF ALL HE SHOULD CARE ABOUT BLACKS.

by the way im only 15, and i can tell i am smarter then half the people writing on this forum.
