John Kasich Speaks at Voice of America Rally

Part of: NewsFlash

On Saturday, September 5, John Kasich participated in a town hall forum moderated by 700 WLW radio personality Bill Cunningham. The Voice of America Freedom Rally, sponsored and organized by grassroots organizations, was held at the Voice of America Park in Liberty Township, Ohio. As I rode the shuttle bus from a local high school, I saw about 40 protesters. The Butler County Sheriff estimated the crowd at approximately 18,000. Amongst flags waving, political signs, patriotic music and speeches, the day was rich with inspirational testimonies. Present were all ages, all races, and all political parties. The unifying theme of the speeches, the crowd chants and the signs was a call for smaller and more responsible government, reducing the over-extension of the executive branch, and the mandate to return to the enumerated powers of the Constitution.

At the rally, Kasich spoke  of the state of Ohio's economy, citing the need for cutting taxes, drawing businesses to Ohio, bringing values back to Ohio schools and his goal to "skinny down the government." One of his goals is to train workers for the future, as well as to fix the regulators of business in order to remove barriers to business in Ohio.

On June 1, in his adopted hometown of Westerville, Ohio, John Kasich announced his candidacy for Governor. John Kasich served in Congress for nine terms and is best known in Congress as Chairman of the House Budget Committee and the architect of the balanced budget. He spent a decade in Congress fighting to balance the federal budget. In 2001, Kasich returned to Columbus to work in the private sector. He is the best-selling author of two books. Kasich also has been a commentator for Fox News Channel.
