Jihad Comes To Canada

There is serious trouble afoot in that sprawling country to the north of the U.S. A massive terror plot has been uncovered and foiled in the heart of the liberal, open-minded, accommodating country of Canada.

It seems a mysterious group of people had acquired three tons of ammonium nitrate, an agricultural fertilizer, but the funny thing is, none of them were farmers. But then, neither was Timothy McVeigh who used the same stuff to blow up the Murrah Federal building in Oklahoma City in 1995.

Suspects have been arrested and are alleged to have been planning to blow up a few things themselves, including, for instance, the Parliament of Canada. But why in the world would anyone want to perpetrate such a dastardly deed in this peaceful and inoffensive country?

As reported in the Toronto Star, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police were initially quite puzzled about that. Regarding the terror suspects, it said this: "They represent the broad strata of our community. Some are students, some are employed, some are unemployed." And, said the Star article, "Aside from the fact that virtually all are young men, it's hard to find a common denominator."

Yep, it’s a real puzzler alright, but let me see if I can make some kind of breakthrough here. Hmmm...Now let me think for just a moment...Okay, I'm going to look at the suspects' names first and see if I can detect any sort of pattern.

Okay, I'm seeing names like Mohamed, and Ahmad, and, let's see now-- Oh, there's another Mohammed (with a slightly different spelling), and Abdul, and, well, what a coincidence, another Ahmad.

Okay, I think I'm zeroing in on a clue here. Wait a minute...

Okay, I've got it. They're all Muslim! That's the common denominator! Somebody alert the Canadian authorities because this could really be significant!

Actually, since I began this column, besides the good news of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi being killed, the fact that the alleged Canadian plotters are Muslim has become such common knowledge that even the most virulent set of politically correct blinders can no longer deny it or its significance. And the plot has thickened.

It is being said that the men whose initially perplexing “common denominator” has finally come to light were plotting one doozy of a coordinated attack, which included plans to blow up the Toronto Stock Exchange, storm and/or blow up the Parliament, take hostages and — get this — possibly behead the prime minister and other leaders. Wow! Now there’s a brazen plan hatched right in the heart of the true, free North and it is textbook radical Islam.

    Great article! :)

At some point, after enough innocent people have been killed, and enough buildings have been blown up, The People will demand that the 5th Column of radical Islam be muzzled.

But we ain't there yet. We've been too darn successful at foiling their various murderous plots against us.

Where are the Keystone Kops when you need them? :-/

Like JR says above, great article! But it suffers from but one weakness. You can't make war on an idea, and similarly, you cannot muzzle an idea. The source of what you call "radical Islam" is the Wahhabi cult in Islam (and their growing list of fiends and relations), and it is this that needs to be muzzled - preferably by other Moslems sick of their murderous ways - but by others if absolutely necessary.

    Cute article.

    1. What country are you calling sprawling?

    2. Multiculturism works, one bump in the road and you condemn the whole road. Please. You cons have been trying to bring down MC since it's inception. You will again fail, as with all conservative agendas. Radical Islam is just another conservative group trying to impose it's view on the people.

    3. And it was a plot, they had the hardware but had no chance in hell of accomplishing it. Means but not enough skills. It was averted.

    4. Zero-Tolerance leads to Taliban governments or the republican dream of how a country should be run. Freedom is about tolerance, but the cons don't get that.

    "massive terror plot". Rubbish.

Mouthy nobodies entrapped by law enforcement. I'll put money on it.

ummm wasn't it mouthy nobodies who were trying to buy 3 tons of ammonium nitrates?

even a deranged "mouthy nobody" can do a lot of damage and cause a lot of misery with that much ammonium nirate if they know how to use it

Never mind that the Canadians squashed a terrorist plot before it could be carried out--that just wouldn't fit in with the extreme rightists' scenario, would it?

Thank god cooler heads prevail in Canada. This article is unadulterated garbage. Between attacking the Muslim world as a whole and advocating a brutal police state specificaly designed to target Muslims, the author has made it very clear that it's far easier to be a blowhard than to develop any effective ideas.

We only *pretended* to sell it to em.. These guys were disaffected youth with big plans, but were a little too mouthy about it.

First off, the would-be terrorists never got ahold of ammonium nitrate. The Canadian police were way ahead of them and actually delivered a fake substance themselves to prove intent in their case. Second off, there have been plenty of plots similar in the U.S. The war in Iraq has put all western nations on dangerous footing and will leave us vulnerable for decades to come.

Here's somethign to put some perspective on things, from teh toronto star:

The point is that, we have not been told anything at all about this case, nothing concrete. Even the lawyers for these peple are not yet in the know. I'm sorry but this sounds awfully, like the canadian government, the conservative anti-immigrant stephen harper goverment want an excuse to slowly make the evolution to the US's 52nd or 53rd state, or whatever the number is. Supposedly there have been quite a few of such arrests in teh last 3 years, yet this is the very first one that is actually publicized...why?

"ummm wasn't it mouthy nobodies who were trying to buy 3 tons of ammonium nitrates?"

Wait for the trial - hopefully some information will actually be released at that point (maybe not) - I believe they sat round mouthing, like so many angry people, until law enforcement offered to sell. It's not clear they initiated the process and "tried to buy".

    A subtle, but important dstinction.

At this very moment Canada's government is arguing before the Supreme Court of Canada that security is more important than civil liberties. it doesn't sound like all the judges are buying it as one has been quoted as saying,"if we're going to live like that we might as well live in North Korea"

Five years ago we implemented laws that allowed the government to do all the same things your government can do under the Patriot Act. They can throw anybody they want into jail without reason, trial or bail for any length of time. They can also deport them to their country of origin without reason, hearing or trial.

So don't worry your little conservative hearts, our laws are just as horrible as yours, and we have quite a few people rotting in jail who've never been charged with anything, except being muslim.

    Feel better

    Richard,

Most interesting comment. It seems as if the entire "democratic" world has followed the Israeli example of finding ways to circumscribe the right of free speech. In our country, these circuscriptions come as a result of the criminal code of law put in place by the Mandate before the State arose, but is enshrined in Israeli law in the Criminal Code of 1977. I cite only the cases I'm aware of - the Anti-Terrorism Act in the UK, the "Patriot" Act in the US. I do not know the specific legislation you refer to in Canada, Richard, but I have heard of it...

Everyone sliding down the same slippery slope together it seems. We all ought to hold hands, eh?

There is no such thing as radical Islam, there is only ISLAM...there are overt and subverts in Islam.
The overts bomb us and scream and demand from us and the covert muslims just have kids and increase quietly in our countries.
They are BOTH committed to a World Islam, and their "holy" book tells them to live quietly amongst us until they have enough monopoly to lauch their own "jihad" by peaceful means... this is the ballot box!!
Muslims today are quite open about one day running the western countries and they have decreed Rome will fall to them first.

Do not fall for the "victim" plea of muslims, they are out to dominate the world...and sadly...they will one day.
Those who know the book of Revelation will know what I mean when I say it is foretold that the Saints will be beheaded in the last days, it is happening already.... Islam will dominate the world..... but ONLY for a season...then Jesus will return.
I hate Islam, it is the Beasts religion for the last days.It is the finest EVIL ever..well shined and polished, and the world is terrified of it.Even its false prophet was a murderer, thief and pedophile.... and pedophillia is accepted in Islam today.... (I will await all the screaming insults from Muslims now, then post the url's as proof)
