Our claim to Jerusalem and to Israel lies in the Torah - a pomise by G-d, and through conquest.
The Christian claim lie in replacement theology. They claim to replace us as the "spiritual Israel" and hence what is ours is thus theirs. That is why Christianity has for so long agressively tried to kill us off and when the Crusades took place, they were big opportunities to kill Jews.
The Moslem claim is in the concept of Dar al Harb as opposed to Dar al Salaam (or Islam). Everything that was once under Moslem rule (within the Dar al Islam, the area of Islam) must remain under it. Everyplace else on the planet is Dar al Harb (the area under threat of the sword). Having once ruled here, they claim the right to forever rule here - except that the Qur'an recognizes the right of the Children of Jacob to this land.
Having stated the claim of the Jewish people, the Moslems can go to the entire Middle East that they sort of control. That works out to about 99% of the Midle East that does not include Israel.

So, for the most part, I do not support the war in Lebanon. It is not in our interests at all. We should be trashing Syria, our real enemy, along with Iran. An invasion of HizbAllah-land from the north with the help of Christian Arabs in Lebanon would be of far greater help in our ultimate security. But, that is not in the cards.

If there were several hundred years for an "us against them" culture to evolve that would allow Arabs and Jews to live together in Eretz Yisrael, maybe.
