Sam, you have to be kidding ... go and look at the figures. Denver officials are worried about gang activity and crime rates, and I have to say it, any murder rate getting into high double figures (and bear in mind this is only the area covered by the Denver Police, not fringe areas) is a lot.
Perhaps it's not as high as many other major US cities (like Miami), largely thanks to the fact that it has quite strict gun laws, but it's still unacceptably high.
Nevertheless, it's as good an advertisement as you'll get in the US for stricter gun control.

Per capita crime rates are also relative. There are small cities which have far higher murder rates than both Miami and Denver. Pine Bluff, AR Myrtle Beach SC and Macon, GA to name just a few.

Honestly The man that I knew that was murdered in Miami was not blood related. he was actually a close child hood freind of mine "like my brother" but he is known as my brother.I was supposed to go but refused because I knew Miami was dangerous. I was born in Jamaica and grew up in Miami. I joined the Air Force at 18 and retired at 39--in the time I was in the military I watched Miami change from a beautiful mid-size city that while distinct from other major American cities had a "flavor" that was uniquely Miami to what it is now. I'm in agreement with Mr. Tancredo--south florida has turned over the economy and the government to Cubans who among immigrants to this country are the most racist and arrogant. They have no desire to assimilate, no desire to learn english, no desire to live as Americans. That is a sad commentary--I miss my City, but there is no way in hell I would ever move back to Miami. I don't even visit because I don't recognize the place anymore. It's been taken over by Cubans and the corruption they bring. The US should just surrender that part of the country to whomever wants it.

as for your comment about comparing small cities to bigger cities Yes your right.Look at the statistics for Miami dade county as a whole.Its in the top of the lists in violent crime not just the city of Miami. So if you thought I was only talking about the city of Miami itself then your wrong.Compare dade county pop 2.4 million to say queens or brooklyn pop in the 2 millions as well.Miami dade is a sh#t loud worse.Even palm beach and broward counties are still far worse than queens brooklyn and the bronx.similar populations.So Miami is far worse no matter what way you look at it.now also compare opa-locka and homestead.to cities of their size and you will see they are at the top of the violent crime list.Opa-locka has been #1 the most often in violent crime and murder more than any city of its size or any size for that matter. The city of west palm beach also is very bad. Its not just the metro area. in fact All of florida as a whole has a very high crime rate tampa orlando even small towns such as ft peirce. Most of the state of new york is on the lists for the lowest crime rate. Look it up and do the research.When I research I dont just look at the cities themselves but I also look at the entire metro area as a whole.Another factor I concider is how often a city tops the lists because some cities such as st louse hit the top of the charts once in a blue moon but cities like Miami detroit and atlants always remain at the top of the charts.The worsts cities where #1 Miami because so many cities in the metro top the charts and it has been #1 more times than any city.,#2 Detriot because the city itself has a very bad crime rate but there are also alot of cities in the metro that have a very low crime rate otherwise it would have beeen number one.#3 would be atlanta #4 would be DC #5 would be new orleans,#6 would be st louis because the city itself just recently ranked number one but mosty of the metro cities rank fairly low and it has not been as bad in recent years. As for regions The south is number one in crime it the worst crime rate out of the regions in the united states.examples "Miami Atlanta" The reasons are the south has the highest black populations,It is a proven scientific fact that hot weather makes people meaner and more likely to be angry.and the south is full of poverty.The midwest was the second worst examples "Chicago Detroit" the reasons lots of poverty and also a fairly high black population.but not as many black people as the south. Miami used to be known as America's playground. Now I hear the animals there will steal anything that is not locked down. We have given that place away and there are far too many people who concur with that statement to say it aint so. We should send the Army there and have great deportations back to their proud homelands. America is a ticking timebomb.
