Regardless of whether there was fraud committed during this last election we need to ensure that our election process is safe, fair and honest as we go forward. Should we have a paper trail coming from each and every voting machine? The correct answer should be "yes". And I don't mean a print out when all the voting is over. I believe that every machine should output a form or ticket or something that assures the person voting that their candidate actually got their vote. Then after confirming their vote, the voter will then hand their form, ticket, etc. to an actual person who will file that record for the voter trolls to count if the election is in question. Even IF the election is not in question we should question it. Therefore I suggest that we push for a paper trail during future elections AND we need to push for an investigation of this past election.
Six prominent members of Congress have called for an investigation. Representatives Conyers (D-MI), Holt (D-NJ), Nadler (D-NY), Scott (D-VA), Watt (D-NC) and Wexler (D-FL), have demanded that the U.S. General Accounting Office to immediately undertake an investigation of the efficacy of voting machines and new technologies used in the 2004 election, how election officials responded to difficulties they encountered, and what we can do in the future to improve our election systems and administration.The decision could come as soon as Monday if there will be an investigation. Sign the petition below demanding a full investigation into whether the election was conducted honestly or not. Also, share your personal story if you have one — members of Congress will use it in their call for an investigation.

Rage, I absolutely agree that we should do all we can to make elections safe, free, and honest. I also agree there should be some kind of independent record of electronic voting. I also like the term "voter trolls."

Um...what about the fact that the government has no right to know how any individual voter voted? The potential for civil rights abuse if the government did collect such data is staggering, yet any audit trail that doesn't attach a vote to a particular voter is going to be useless.
Oh, and what a surprise that Conyers, Holt, Nadler, Scott, Watt, and Wexler would scream for an investigation regardless of whether or not there's cause to conduct one. Couldn't be the far left loons are futiley trying to manufacture party paranoia because they're frightened (and rightly so) that the election results will increased the power and influence of moderate Democrats, could it?

When Congress reconvenes in January, at least 14 members of the House of Representatives will challenge the validity of the 2004 election. They will request an immediate investigation into many problems and irregularities encountered in the election.
According to the Electoral Count Act of 1887, one senator and one House Representative are required to contest an election prior to inauguration. We have the representatives; we still need a senator. Please let Senator Barbara Boxer know that we want her to be that senator.
